Compass Reverse Braking Noise

Hey guys, new poster, but vigilant forum reader.

I've read dozens of posts here and on other forums about the horrible noise coming from the back of a Compass when braking in reverse, I'm sure most of you have woken up your neighbors and scared coworkers just backing out of your parking. Anyway, after a long time trying to figure it out, here's my saga and hopefull conclusion.

Initially the dealership didn't believe me and said it was because of the metallic brake pads. BS. They finally heard it one time and replaced the pads on all 4 wheels (at about 11k miles). The idiot replacing the pads put them in backwards, so the next day they replace all 4 pads and rotors. Noise came back a month later and they gave me the metallic pads BS again and told me to learn to live with it.

Later on I read somewhere that a former Dodge Neon owner had similar problems and that it was related to his e-brake cable - dealership looked (they say) and said it was good. After that I started using my e-brake again every time I park (good 'ol manual transmission habbits). Since I use my e-brake I've never had that awefule noise.

Lesson: If you get horrible noise when braking in reverse, start using your e-brake, that should solve it.

Hope this helps others, gonna change out the spark plugs hopefully soon and post some pics of the process, looks like others were looking for some to help...

Pulling the e-brake on will help reduce the surface rust and help to reduce the squeel. Thanks for the post and aboard!

We did some on the spark plugs here

and

if that helps.
