Compass Passenger Rear road noise

Noise seems to emanate from the passenger rear, passenger side if not the rear. It's road noise than hums increasingly louder with speed. It's not the engine, though the emergency brake hand vibrates a bit. I take a right curve and the noise stops until the weight comes back to the passenger side again. Tried new quite tires and sound deadening to no avail. It must be mechanical.
Any recognize these symptoms?

Cupped tire, rear axle bearing? Try swapping the front/rear tire and see if it changes.

Thanks for the response. I have
brand new Hankook 18" tires. Old Goodyears (that did become cupped) also made the same road noise. So, perhaps it is the bearings.
I'm taking it into the shop tonight.
Have no idea what the average cost is for replacing the bearings.

Also since you mentioned that the e-brake check the brakes out too. There could be askew in there or worn 'funny'.

Hope the brakes are okay. Only about 34k miles on the vehicle.
Looks like bearings are $80-90 plus labor. Don't know how long/much labor is involved.

From the sounds of this thread it sounds like a cheap and easy fix. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f98/c...aring-1198482/

Turned out to be the bearings/hub and a tie rod. Kind of amazing for a Jeep w/34k miles (and this problem was present prior to reaching 30k).

COST to have fixed: $747.

It fixed the problem and the Compass is finally quiet and running very smoothly.

Sorry you had the problem and that doesn't look very cheap to me. But I am glad it's fixed and for the feedback!

Yup, I concur.
Thanks for your input. It helped!
Hope others can benefit from this in a less costly manner.
