Very true. It's estimated that less than 10% of 4WD ever see any off-road use and I wonder how many of those EVER use Low Range. It must be nice to have a readily available off-road parts supply to modify your Jeep while some of us have to wait for parts to be created or build our own from scratch.

Yea, kinda forgot that didn't I? Funny thing about the "more capable" Jeeps.

My wife never took here '96 GC off-road and has no plans of taking the '03 off-road either. She did do a 180 on ice the other day so I bought her some Firestone Destination A/T's for Valentines Day. Her comment "Every girl LOVES new shoes! Now Jezzy tutu can go to any shopping mall, yard sale or junk shop in the country."

The Daughter has had her Libby off-road twice now...in a ditch because of ice. 4WD high range got her out both times.

My Compass always goes where I want it to go. I've never had any problems on ice, snow, rain or anything else. Right now I'm just waiting for the Skid Plates to come in and we'll see where else I want her to go.

Skid plates? I'm interested. Lots of rocks here in AZ and some extra protection would be nice.

You are right, it's an aftermarked skid plate.
Our local little company imports these from Russia, sells and installs.
The same skid plate goes both to 2.4 gas and 2.0 CRD Compass, and should go also to Patriot (called Liberty in Russia).

Estonian skid-plate dealer (http://www.karterikaitse.ee/) asks about 140 euros for steel plate and about 355 euros for aluminium plate.
The manufacturer is "Metalloproduktsia" in Russia, homepage in English is here: http://en.karter.ru/catalogue/390/

Looks like the ones that Urr found would be a little pricey to ship to the US, but I do find it interesting that the Russian aftermarket is more progressive than the US! Urr has also sent me a link with some pretty good MK pics of how and what they are doing with the MK's over there! They have been some what more aggressive to go off roading than we have in the US. I'll get those arranged and posted as soon as I can.

For my stuff, I'll be working with factory parts and doing a "how to w/pics" as soon as the weather permits and the right parts get here. There has been some ambiguity over part numbers and pricing on some of these pieces, so I want to get those ironed out before committing.

I'll also be doing tow hooks and ran into a listing and pricing problem at the dealer that I'll need to look into.

I'll more than likely go with the RR rock sliders too. I fully expect them to fit the Compass all though the listing is for the Patriot.

Last but not least is a nice brush guard. I've seen one that I REALLY like on a Libby but need to find out who makes it and possibly do a "copy". I have a Liberty friend who's father has a complete tubing bender and welding set up that has offered to help design and build one to possibly put on the market.

All of this just takes time and money so if anybody else gets to any of these projects before I do It's not going to depress me at all!

I found original (Mopar) side guards for Jeep Compass on the Internet.
Item No: 82210807, made of steel.
See here, page four (or search the item No): http://www.jeep.at/de/compass/pdf/J_...s_Zubehoer.pdf

Have you considered these also?

Wow, hey guys! Hasn't this part of the forums evolved! I see the same old Jeep arguments are still going around... Well as a previous Compass owner, and a now '08 JK Rubi owner, I'm proud to say i've taken her out every weekend since I've bought her! Both were fun to take off road, only time I ever use Low range is in the serious steep incline/decline/rocky trails.

All Jeeps were made to have fun with!!
