Compass CRD - Exhaust Upgrade

Hey All. I'm seriously contemplating an upgrade to the stock exhaust for my MK CRD. I'm open to any advice here, as i'm new to Turbo Diesel cars - so anyone with experience / knowledge is certainly appreciated.

Basically i'm still not happy with off the line performance. For other MK CRD owners in the UK - not sure if you have the same experience? I'm hoping a bit more breathing space for my CRD will do the trick, and of course add a nicer / deeper exhaust note. The TSB's out there for this issue only applies to the petrol models.

No "brand name" exhaust specialists are making any exhausts yet - however there are a few reputable local shops that can easily custom make a mandrel bent exhaust for my car. One in particular is suggesting an exhaust replacement with a 3" Exhaust system. They didn't say much else, apart from it definitely making a difference to the stock 2.5" exhaust. I did measure it myself, and the stock exhaust is 2.5"

Gramps - if you have any detail on the CRD exhaust system in your handy manual, that would be much appreciated. Thanks guys, sorry for the long post.

Is this all that you're looking for or do you need the Turbo r&r info?

Everything else with pics pertains to the Turbo, waste gate, sensors, EGR valve, heat shields, etc that are tucked up around the engine and a little bit about fasteners. Not really anything else on the exhaust pipe.

I can't get you a video now as I am on my phone (pos computer isn't working) but many TDI guys just put a straight pipe on. It sounds great due to the VNT being spooled up at idle. Clips after my comp cooperates.

I'm undecided with the sound of that TDI, I like a deeper sounding note. They would obviously have a different exhaust setup, being different cars - but I wonder how different.

I've had a couple of local exhaust workshops check out the CRD Compass, and they are quite surprised with the stock exhaust setup. It's all 2.5" mandrel bent to the muffler, with the muffler being the only bottleneck. I can't recall the exact terminology, but in short the muffler is choking the exhaust simply for a lot of silencing. So my solution is a new muffler - nicely polished in stainless steel!

When I get it done i'll post a pic and a video, now that I'm familiarizing with You Tube! Wow, the technology....
