I know its not a Compass, but its the same drivetrain. My Caliber R/T FWD averaged 28 or 27.8 (whichever you prefer, I rounded up) on my first tank today. That's with liberal use of Autostick and cruise control though. Plus, I dont think I have as much ground clearance. Might be helpful, not sure guys.

That's pretty decent. I always ask, is that calculated mileage or from the read out on the dash? Mine really drops with outside temperature too, about 2-3 mpg less at 30 degrees or less compared with 50 degrees and above. How's the weather down there? It's here!

Overall height: Compass 4X4 =64.2; Caliber R/T =60.4
Ground Clearance: Compass 4X4 =8.5; Caliber R/T =7.0.

Calculated, the read out actually was 26.8, but on calculation, turned out to be 27.8. Its warm down here, I think the high was 68 or 70 today. Its about 36 in the mornings when I leave though.

Got 30.3 MPG with the CVT last tank. Very happy with it. Have about 3000KM on it.

This was 95% hwy driving and I made it a point to keep the speed around 60 MPH. Lst few tanks have averaged between 25 and 27 but had little more city drivning and average speed on hwy of 70 MPH.

1st tank

Didn't count the first time I put gas in it, since I bought the car with gas already in it, but I just filled it up. 22 mpg with about half highway half city driving. Manual transmission 4x4 (but I didn't do any 4wd driving)

I have the 4x4 sport and that driver convenience thing says I am getting just under 20 per gallon to 22 at times. I don't drive like a maniac and keep the rpms low so it should be higher. Maybe that thing is not accurate. I have not checked it against the actual mileage and done the calculations myself.

How cold has it been and is it stop and go? Those things affect mine the most, but not THAT much. Maybe get the dealer to check it out. Just doesn't sound right.

Supposedly the CVT gets slightly lower mileage -- maybe one or two less miles per gallon -- but in the real world, it looks like most drivers report about the same mileage, whether it be a manual or a CVT.

By the way, the only engine currently being installed in Compasses is 2.4 liters, NOT 2.8. Unless of course the 2.0 liter is now being installed in the Compass, but I was under the impression that this won't happen for another month or so.

Thread back from the past...........

There must be some new Compass owners. I'm considering getting one as my daily driver. Anyone have a manual 4x2? At under $18,000, it seems like a good deal.

I don't know if anyone is actually getting the 30mpg the highway sticker shows.

No manual tranny but get 28mpg at 65 to 70 mph with the air on. Arround town I suspect it gets near 20. I measured the highway milage by distance between fillups several times. We now have 8000 miles on it and are now using syn oil 5W20. All the way to Halifax NS and back to Milwaukee last month no problems except cracked wind shield. Replaced in Canada for 399.00.

Good Gas Milelage

I have a Compas limited 4X2 with 2.4L/5-speed manual. I had it on order from the factory. Just got it on 6/4/07. It now has over 9,000 miles allready!
The window sticker says 30 MPG highway. It will do better than that!
I average usually over 30MPG. At highway speeds (65+) it drops off some. Cruising around the backroads where I live at say 45 to 55 MPH it will get about 32 MPG. I burn a tank of gas every 2 days. I reset the fuel mileage in the EVIC usually every few tank fulls, if I remember. After out on the town last, I pulled in the drive way, my aveage was 30.8 at that time. Thats typical for about every tank full . It bounces around 29 to 32 MPG average. I usually keep the reading displayed on the dash. The worst I've had was 27.9 aveage when I went to fill-up again. That was driving the turnpike at 75 to 85MPH.
One more thing the A/C kills the fuel mileage. The fuel aveage almost immediately starts to drop when the A/C is turned on.

I'm impressed with both your mileage in such short order and your mpg.

ps; check your pm's.
