live on the rock (kodiak ak) dont have much stop and go driving, hell we have a couple 4 way stops and a blinking yellow. had the compass for about a month now. only got 400 miles on it but its averaging about 25.5 and thats the 2.4l 4x4 sport with the cvt. average driving speed is 55-60mph between the base and the city...

We went on a 1,200 round trip this past weekend. Most of it was interstate at 70 +/- mph, but quite a bit of in town driving as well. We averaged 24.8 mpg. Only have 2,000 miles on the Compass now.
A month ago we went on a little trip in my lifted Jeep Rubicon. No interestate at all. Went about 400 miles and got 20 mpg.

I'm impressed, that sounds like something to write home about! What was your average speed in the Rubicon and is that typical? What kind of road/terrain?

Avg Speed Was Probably 50 Mph, Rolling Terain. That's Not Typical, I Wish It Was. Usual Is About 15 - 16 Mpg.

Were the temps particularly hot? Were you driving mostly at higher altitude?

Air pressure up in the tires?

Mistake in the calculations?

Just curious, as there is always an explanation, but sometimes it escapes us.

Temp was about 60 +/-, altitude roughly 500 to 800 feet asl. I checked the numbers 3 times. I think it's mostly due to keeping my foot off the firewall. Gas mileage really is better at 50 - 55 mph than it is at 65-70, in just about any vehicle, at least any I've ever had.

I tried like hell to get better mileage numbers out of my XJ on a couple of road trips... guess I just could never drive slow enough.

I went digging again on the 2.0 engine. Available on the Sport FWD only (subtract $200) with CVT only (+1000), mileage should be the same as a Caliber 2.0, CVT @ 26/30 mpg.

I just got my Compass brochure in the mail yesterday (a month late for my decision ).

The list the 2.0 motor with "late" availability and various specs.

The brochure is nice. I got a pang of "man, it was a hard decision and I coulda been happy with a Compass too."

I especially liked the "accessory" tent that attaches to the liftgate and rear of the Compass.

I had picked up a brochure when I had my oil changed in Albuquerque and finally got the one from Jeep in the mail just a little while back. Lots of goodies for them. I went in to the Compass "build you own" and hammered out different configurations to find the info on the 2.0 that I posted.

It looks like you've dropped your cost per mile by a penny or two with the CVT2 or if you drive 12K a year between $120 - $240 in you pocket instead of Big Oil . That's worth looking into. Do they use the 10% blended gas up there like we do in the lower 48?

Swanny, what are you getting for mileage? Are you calculating for US or Imperial Gallons?


TO: 07compasssport,

Ethanol is higher octane, I'd run e85 if we were set up for it, 105 - 110 octane! But DC and the rest of them don't want to build e85 capable cars until the infrastructure is installed. What a crock! Which came first, the car or the gas station?
