Car won't start this am

Just got to work and wife left message Compass won't start this am.

Sounds like dead battery. She said the keys weren't in the ignition. She did leave the cell phone charger plugged into the AC type socket. I can't believe it, but could that totally drain the battery? She called the 800 number you get with the car and someone will help her, so that's good.

Wonder what is up with the car.

The AC socket goes dead within 60 seconds of the key leaving the ignition. Only with the key in the On position is the AC socket hot.

Obvious things -- lights left on or a bad alternator or battery.

Those would be my guesses too since everything but the lights get switched off with the key and it chimes at you if you leave those on. There is an idiot light to tell you if the alternator isn't putting out. I suspect a defective battery (bad cell), poor connection or something wrong in the ignition circuit, but it sounds like it cranks slowly?

Let us know what happens.

Guy came out and gave her a jump this am from the 800 number you get with the car. So she's off to work, long drive for her today. I wonder if she will have to call it again, later.

When I came home last night I didn't see any lights left on the car.

We've only had the car for about a month, so this is kind of bothersome. I will monitor how the car is doing and report back when I know something.

Wife said there was no cranking at all this am. All totally dead. Nada. She said she also could not move the stick out of the Park setting.

Maybe related to the shifter then. If it's out of adjustment and not engaging the circuitry then you get no juice. You also have to have your foot on the brake to shift out of Park, I've forgotten that a couple of time. Why a jump was all that it took still sounds like battery.

Shifter would not cause a complete electrical failure.

Symptoms so far point to a bad battery or connection.
