with the 2.4L engine, yes.

2000 lbs trailer load limit with the trailer tow prep group (mostly the oil cooler option). 225 lb tongue weight max.

without the trailer tow prep group, it's 1000 lbs.

http://jeep.ca/en/compass/ model specs.

Many years ago I had a Ford Escort Hatchback. I put a hitch on it and for 2 years towed a small fishing boat with a 9.9 motor on it. When I traded the Escort in, the salesman cracked up when he saw the hitch. He said, "so, what is the towing capacity of the Ford Escort?" and we both cracked up laughing.

I am getting my Oil Cooler next week so hopefully I will be able to take the boat out the following weekend. I know that the Pat is rated to pull 2000 with the cooler but I wonder how it will handle with a 2000lb boat behind it. My boat is just over 1600lbs so I'll let you know how it goes.

I tow a kayak trailer with 4 kayaks on it. Very lightweight trailer. With my 6 cylinder Wrangler I could barely tell I was towing something. My 4 cylinder Patriot on the other hand.....does a fine job, but I can really tell I'm pulling weight.

Yes u can tow a small boat. I have an '07 Compass with hitch and the factory tow package allowing me to tow up 2000 lbs. I used a small trailer and tow kayaks and have hauled a lawn mower as well as a new washer and dryer. Being a fact that the Compass you refer is FWD it should be less strain on the engine since you dont have the added weight of a 4WD system. My Compass is FWD manual.

I finally got to take my boat on a trip with the MK. It pulls it just fine. In fact it pulls it like the boat is not even there......except going up hill in 5th gear on the highway, but that is to be expected. There was no trailer sway at all. Other than an issue with the wiring harness I was very impressed.

Here is a couple of pics of the boat hooked up to my very dirty MK at the campsite. Sorry no pics of it launching or pulling from the lake due to the wiring harness issues. I'll try to get some of those on our next trip.

Very nice, thanks for the feedback! That's even a little bigger boat than I had been thinking about.
BTW - love your sig!

What was the total unloaded weight of the trailer and boat? Just curious I am going to be towing a 1500 lb pop up camper this weekend
