Burning rubber smell

2008 Compass Sport, CVT, 2.4 engine, 65,000 miles.

Now that its warmer out and I have the windows cranked a little, I notice a burning rubber smell when I'm taching out at around 3K or so going up big hills. Just the smell nothing else.

I had the setting on defrost or mix so I believe that activates the AC compressor or clutch and probably puts more drag on the serpentine belt. I believe the belt has never been changed and I believe the manual calls it to be replaced at 120K.

Has anyone else had this burning rubber smell?

I smell that to on my car it's also 2008 Compass Sport, CVT, 2.4 engine. I used Conveyor Belt Rubber check this http://www.orf.ae/ . Its very good. Sometimes it's only when I'm going fast but sometimes when I'm just driving normal on highway I always thought it was just my belt by the time I stopped the smell was gone.

You have a slipping belt. Could be the serpentine or in the CVT. CV transmissions was just fine on
5 hp AllState mother scooters in 1960, but putting them into automobiles was a mistake imho.

The CVT belts are metal in these transmissions.

I figured it might be the serpentine belt tensioner. The belt looks OK. The tensioner appears to have some oil on the side of it. No oil showing anywhere else so I'm guessing the tensioner may need replacing soon.
