ChillyWillys, thank you ever so much for your preaching. We can't let adults make their own decisions now, can we? I especially liked how you used bold font throughout your whole post. That small touch really brought out the whole point about how you know how people should run their lives much better than the people themselves. I also liked how you started your preaching with asking what reason anyone could ever have in disabling the chime - when people already have written their reasons above. Nice to know you won't even bother reading what others have written first before jumping right in and telling everyone how they must live their lives.

Everybody keep in mind that there are exceptions to every rule. Those that have had friends/relatives die because they weren't wearing them could be quite vehement about their use. Others, such as rural mail carriers, could find them annoying and cumbersome. One size does not fit all. I am a strong advocate of wearing seat belts and the only time that I haven't is during low speed maneuvering, backing trailer and such. Everyone has their reasons.

I agree! I use my seat belt at least 5 times during my paper route. Anytime I go over 30 mph for more than a house or 2. I am in the middle of nowhere at 3am so I see maybe 2 cars a night at the most. I always use my seat belt when I am not working! I like my life and I like not paying tickets! The local police let me get away with a lot during my route but not during the day. You should always wear your seat belt unless you have a GOOD reason not to!

Tony1911,
I just read your comments above where you felt I was preaching. That was not my intent. First of all, I often do bold face text because it is at times easier for ME to read. Second, Unlike what you implied, I read every word of this thread up until I posted what I said. Third, I could care less how other people run their lives. I have enough to take care of in my own life. My only intention was to make the point about head injuries and head injury clinics - which you either missed completely or chose to ignore. So please don’t preach to me yourself when you didn’t even seem to understand the intent of my post to begin with. CW |

I was gonna say that I thought the bold was easier to read, even if I have already had my cataracts taken care of.
Old eyes, what can I say. The only thing that I can't stand is THE ALL CAPS, I FEEL LIKE I'M BEING YELLED AT! It's so hard to read the intended infliction in the written word, it never hurts to use these little icons to lighten things up. ![]() I really don't feel that anybody was trying to be dictatorial.

people need to think
The issue is not whether seat belts should be worn or are safe, duh.
The issue is that it is an invasion of your privacy rights and freedom! What's next? Your house will relentlessly beep until you lock your door? Your microchip will beep until you check-in to work or take your pills? Think people. This is not a step the government should dictate. It's one thing for it to be a law, another to force you into obeying. |

It appears I overreacted. My apologies. And sorry for my tardiness - I meant to write this sooner, but as I often surf these forums during quiet moments of my work day I am often interrupted.

Guys, if you have trouble seeing your text without using all bold, I recommend you adjust your display settings. Plain old regular text is meant to be legible, and the effects just that - effects for when you want to emphasize something. Besides, if you can't see plain text clearly, isn't it a pain in the arse to read what others have written since 99% of posts is written without bold or adjustment of the font size? In cooldestinys defense, I would think that as soon as the question "how do I disable the chime" is answered with something like "just use your seatbelt, stupid!" the discussion has already ceased being technical in nature. That is at least how I look at it. Perhaps I am allergic to non-technical answers on this issue due to the amount of replies that refused to address the question itself, instead talking about why seat belts were invented or legislation, I have myself received and seen others receive when it comes to this topic? We're all adults, we've all been told numerous times about the benefit of seat belts, if someone asks about disabling a seat belt chime I really find it hard to believe they are asking that because they've never heard about them and will immediately see the light if someone would just take the time to point out their benefit.

This forum used to be a "tech forum" which was a good way to keep out the trolls. Then Admin told us to lighten up a little and let some good natured general discussion in to liven things up. That's why some things get moderated more "heavily" than others, its an opinion call. I try not to let some issues get to the point of being all out warfare but its not an easy line to draw and I often walk away from some responses before I make an decision. I felt that cooldestinys first post was purely political and needed to be directed to another part of the forum.
I don't have any problem reading the type that is on the screen, I was only admitting that I did find bold easier. I find the higher contrast refreshing at times. I've seen other posts in other forums where people use all caps, italics, bold and many combinations of them and people do comment about it. It's not against any of the rules and I didn't see a need to have a war over it. And now we've gone "off topic" and I'm flexing the rules a bit. Maybe I should ban myself for a month and see how things go.

Just some "technical" advice.... While viewing any web page, press Ctrl (or Cmd on Apples) and the plus sign (+). In any browser, this will increase the font size for easier reading. Keep pressing the plus sign until you get the desired size.
If you already knew this, sorry. Just thought I'd share that tip, as I use this feature quite often as well.

I answered his question on page 1. Then we walked around the "why you should wear your seat belt" conversation. At this point the topic is just here for reference if someone else has more questions about it or wants to show another way to eliminate the chime.

As far as the bold text is concerned, my eyes can live without it. I fully understand that bold text is usually used to highlight a point. I was on another forum for a long time that had much darker text than this one does. I didn’t mean to offend. To those of you that indicated that you don’t wear seat belts because of your work situation, newspaper delivery, mail carrier, etc., I understand that too. I’d do the same thing if I was in your position. CW |

Solution to the seat belt ding.
SOLUTION FOUND. I silenced the seat belt ding on my 05 liberty. You cant cut or jumper the wires located on the female end of the drivers seat belt, but you can fool it. They used a resistance switch inside the female end that requires a certain voltage to be reported back to silence the ding when the belt is latched. You have to access the switch (it is just clipped up in there) tape a MAGNET to it and walla! No more ding because the car thinks the belt is always latched.
Now this is no means a reason not to wear your seat belt. Ive been wearing mine since I was a kid in the early 70s. But I agree some times you dont want it latched like when backing a trailer. Besides I object to any one nagging you to wear your belt. phhuck'em. You should be smart enough to do it anyway. Last edited by Timotb; 08-27-2009 at 09:18 PM.. |
