Alarm lamp lighting when rolling

Hi
I have a 2008 Compass Sport which has developed a strange and slightly worrying fault. While stationary the alarm lamp on the dash works as it should - flashing when the alarm is set and unset - but sometimes when rolling, especially when accelerating, the lamp lights for a short while and then extinguishes. This is intermittent. It doesn't happen all the time and often not for a few days at a time.
It doesn't appear to be related to the weather nor to other environmental conditions - bumpy roads etc.
I have tried replacing the battery in the key I use and have tried the spare. Both have the same effect - the lamp still lights intermittently while rolling.
I have taken the vehicle to the local Jeep dealer and they have no idea what is going on and can only suggest replacing the computer at a cost of around $1000.
Has anyone else had a similar fault?
What, if any, was the solution?
Thanks

jcheriton,

I'm sorry to hear about your concerns. Was the symptom occurring when the vehicle was at the dealer? Were there any fault codes present?

Hi Dave
Thanks for the reply. The symptom hasn't appeared while the dealer had the vehicle nor have any error codes been collected during diagnosis. This is the worst part of the problem - it is intermittent and the dealer has never seen it.
It worries me a little that the car is going to simply cut out one day and refuse to start, leaving me abandoned in the middle of nowhere. I was hoping that I was not alone and that someone somewhe had already had and solved this or a similar problem.
Do you have suggestions as to how I can perhaps narrow my search for a faulty part or parts?

jcheriton,

Intermittent issues can be frustrating for Jeep owners and servicing dealers. For accuracy, duplication at the dealer is very important. Some customers attempt to capture events on video. Perhaps another member here has experienced a similar symptom. The intermittent nature of it may lead to a wiring issue.

Keeping in touch with your dealer on the issue is encouraged.
