Its not as capable as a wrangler, or even a liberty. But man I love it, and it has gotten me everywhere I've wanted to go.

I don't care about rock crawling, but I want to explore places in AZ, and it does the job very well... If you plan on going off road, make sure you get the FDII package. worth the MPG hit if you are actually gonna use it.

Its amazing the difference between the "D" and "L" modes on the patriot. There were a few times I was in "D" because I was going through some faster sections, but I actually got bogged down, or got to some places with rocks I couldn't climb over. slid it down into "L" and crawled out of it like it was nothing.

If you are ever in AZ, you are more than welcome to come with me to see how a patriot really performs!

My liberty is 2wd so I can't really do much offload with it so a patriot with FDII would be a step up

Very true, a FDII patriot would be a step up for sure. I love mine. Even after that day of wheeling and some commuting, I ended up gettng 19.5mpg, and that's lifted with bigger tires too.

I test drove a patriot with fdII. Other than the lack of power I liked it. The stereo was pretty awesome too.

Depends on the options, my patriot was >23k out the door. sport w/ FDII, uConnect 230 w/bluetooth, power group, and two other options, that I cannot remember off the top of my head.


But if you're gonna buy one new, do it quick, rumor is that the new cherokee is replacing the liberty, compass, and patriot. and they will be bringing in an even smaller vehicle under the cherokee.

But only for 2 more years. In 2015 they'll be replacing the MKs with a single unit as a 2016 model. Or in 2016 as a 2016 model. Either way, the great looks of the Patriot will never be seen again if the new Cherokee is a glimpse into the future for Jeep.

*Edit: OH and what Patriot are you looking at if a new Wrangler is $3k less? I had a FDII Sport and it had everything I'd ever wanted. You don't need to get a fancy Limited or Latitude (whatever they're calling the fancier models these days) ... just get your dealer to find one and have it shipped in. I had to get my Patriot shipped in from Arkansucks (Arkansas).
