Because originally when the concept was shown the Compass was geared more to crawling the urban jungle not the trails (which is why it lacks the Trail Rating Badge/Transmission option) and if you wanted Trail Rated you'd go with the Patriot. This was Chryslers attempt to cash in on the whole Fast N Furious Tuner crowd and turn people on to the Jeep brand (instead of just the Dodge brand (ie Neon and then Caliber)
Now the original concept vehicle was much more like the Rallye package they eventually offered (and personally the best looking Compass they make) and while the Rallye is still 4x4 it certainly was geared more towards the tuner crowd than the a-typical Jeep crowd (18" wheels with 55 series tires?) This is why the Compass seems to be the bastard step child that no one likes (no respect from the rest of the Jeep community, and no respect from the Tuner crowd - if you want a tuner buy a Caliber)
Having said that - there is still a lacking aftermarket for the Compass - no matter how you want to trick it out (Fast N Furious Tuner - or Off Road trail monster) and there are some people here that have the RRO lift kit on their Compass - smaller wheels/bigger tires etc...but it'd be nice to see perhaps a roof light bar like the Liberty Renegade, maybe more lift kit options, tubular side steps, tubular brushguards, aftermarket tails, HID projectors would be nice too etc..
Having come FROM the world of Tuners (I had a 98 Neon - modified) the lack of aftermarket products for the Jeep MK's (Calibers have a ton of available parts) is pretty dissapointing considering how much is available for other Jeep models.
