29" tires with no mods?

Ive done some research on most of the threads that contain anything about lifting a patriot or compass, and just wanted to make sure if i could fit 29" (ie. 255/55 18s) general grabbers in the stock wheel wells and clear the spring guard with out modifications. I have already ordered the RR lift, but am wondering if i can go ahead and order the tires and put them on before i do the lift (.

Also, will these tires safely fit the stock chrome 18 inch limited rims? They seem to barely be able to fit on the stock rim width (7") but im not sure if there is anything else i need to look at.

Thanks for any help.

These will fit on the rims OK and the height is OK. What you'll need to watch out for is the rubbing on turns. I know of people using 245's but don't recall anybody going to 255's and some of them have had very minor rubbing and modified that little protrusion on the rear of the front wheel wells.
