I'm also a fan of the CVT. With other vehicles I often felt like I was trying to manipulate which gear it was in and the jerkiness from shifting was very perceptible. Aside from the "handoff" that occurs somewhere between 10-20 MPH, the CVT is incredibly smooth and responsive - and if you accelerate conservatively, even that handoff is imperceptible.

The only potential downside is that there seems to be a lot of drag with the CVT when you're not pressing on the accelerator. I feel like a fool having to press the accelerator even when going down some steep hills on the highway. But my MPG rating is better than with some cars that glided with ease, and the added drag means less wear on the brakes (and is useful in slippery conditions), so it's not all bad.

The Compass is my third vehicle, first SUV, and it's my favorite by far.

Ive had an '89 Cavalier Z24, 99 Grand Am SE, '01 Volvo XC70, and '11 Patriot. The patriot cvt is by far my least favorite transmission.
