Love my JK Unlimited, (it replaced my Caliber 10 months ago!), BUT I do love the look of the new MK IIs. It's what the Compass should've been all along. Then again, the Caliber is a little better now than it was in '07, but still not up to snuff... I've yet to figure out what DCX was thinking with the miles of plastic in ALL their vehicles in that time period... And I say this as a Mercedes Benz and Chrysler fan!

I'm surprised to see the Compass has made it another year let alone get this makeover. Don't get me wrong, I like the model (I should, I own one) but the 'Riot seemed to be favoured by a landslide, and having two vehicles of virtually the same thing still seems redundant to me.

That all being said, if I was in the market for another MK, I'd be all over this.

I'm coming from the other direction than everyone else I guess.

The original compass reminded me of the original Neon(had a '96 coupe, loved it). The fit and finish was cheap, but it was economical, and mechanically you got good bang for the buck.

Then they redid the Neon, got rid of the coupe, raised the price, and it faded away.

This is like the same thing, especially with the Liberty available. The Compass Latitude 4x4 is 23K, the Liberty 4x4 is 24K. It's one thing if you have cars in the same category with what is now very competitive pricing, but to have a higher model on the same lot that's competitive doesn't bode well.

Meanwhile the Patriot retains it's price point, and has the same powertrain. A Patriot 4x4 can be had for 2K less than the base model Compass. So unless someone really likes the looks, I really don't see much future for the Compass.

The steering wheel uses a similar configuration to that of the new Grand Cherokee, but the Compass' interior falls far short of its bigger brother's opulence. Hard plastics abound in the Compass.

There are no fixed-gear transmissions for the Compass. Jeep is making it available with two continuously variable transmissions, depending on which drivetrain package is chosen. Jeep's CVT2 transmission includes a low range for the off-road package.

Jeep has a number of different cabin tech options. The car can be had with a USB port for music, a Bluetooth phone system, and a Boston Acoustics audio system that includes fold-out rear speakers for tailgating. A hard-drive-based navigation MYGIG system is also available.

The base Compass is front-wheel-drive, but Jeep will offer two four-wheel-drive packages: Freedom Drive I and Freedom Drive II Off-Road. The latter gets Jeep's Trail Rated designation with a ride height 1 inch higher than standard models, a low range mode, skid plates, and a full-size spare tire.

what I really want to know is if the new LED tails from the new Compass will fit in the old ones!
