2010 patriot not shifting well

So I drove down south today about 3 hours and on my way back when I pull up to a light the engine has a hard time shifting into 2nd,3rd etc. is there a way to check the trans fluid? I think it might be low

Manual transmission?

No it's automatic but we need to refill the trans fluid except it says the dealer needs to do it. Can I fill the fluid without taking it to the dealer?

You have a CVT trans, requires dealer only fluid and yes it is expensive.

Any idea what I'm looking at paying to refill the trans fluid? Can I buy the fluid online and just top off my fluid?

FujativeOCR 01-08-2013 10:49 PM

Cvt...but sticks between 2nd and 3rd?? :-/

No doesn't stick I just need cvt fluid because it is low. Is there any way I can buy some online and fill it a little?

Why would you think it's low on transmission fluid when there is no provision to check the level. A CVT transmission dosn't "shift" anyway, it varies the gear ratio on a smooth continual basis in response to load, speed etc. If it's not doing it's job right and feels "weird" or something it is probably time for a trip to the dealer to have it checked. If your lucky it might just be low on fluid but to monkey around and try and add some when that might not be the problem might do more harm than good and still not fix the problem.

Just my 2 cents worth....

We took it to a local mech who had the tool to check it. Plus he put some more cvt fluid in and it's running great now
