2008 Jeep Patriot - Issues with HID Lights

I have been having an issue with my 2008 Jeep Patriot. My starter malfunctioned two weeks ago and was replaced. I was told that there was a hole in my starter. That was two weeks ago. The other day, after putting my car in park and taking the key out of the ignition, my car continued to run making the noise as if I try to start the car while the car was still running. I took it to the dealer to look at. I was told that the HID kit that was installed on my car was causing an issue with the TIPM Module. It would need to be replaced for $600. I am not sure if this is right and if the issue with my starter could have caused the problem not the lights. Please help.

Hi
The TIPM controls both but can't see how one could affect the other.

Thanks for your response. I was told that the lights are causing a power surge that affected the TIPM and therefore causing problems with the replaced starter. Does this make sense?

Hi
No how have you got them wired up? TIMP will monitor the lighting circuit and will shut off the lights if it draws too much current or too little current and that’s why some that have done this conversion complain of flickering.

You might want to try the Compass & Patriot forum for better response.

We have another thread on this same issue with HID's and starters. I'll need to look for it later. Thanks Merlin for bringing this to my attention.

There are 3 threads going on the same issue. 2 titled with HID and one titled as Starter. Here's the other: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f98/2007-compass-starter-motor-problems-602931/

So, it looks like the TIPM isnt well shielded... design flaw?

BTW. Its not VOLTAGE and voltage drops causing issues with the HIDs, its probably spikes in amp draw or volt draw.

hid's and starters

my 2008 patriot has hid's but they flicker. took it to a place where install hid's and told them my problem.they check the wiring and fuses and ground. they said i needed a compositor, they put it in and watched for any flickering.. 2min later the starter is trying to turn on while the car is running. we try it again with a different compositor and the same problem with the starter came up

H13/9008 replacement bulbs

would it be better to put H13/9008 replacement bulbs on my 2008 jeep patriot instead of putting the hid kit

I put the Sylvania SilverStars in mine because of the feedback on HID's (and the fact that blinding others doesn't seem like the right thing to do) and I am VERY happy with them!

hid's and starters

can the hid be installed by connecting the whole hid setup straight to the battery and just having a on and off switch connected
