2.0L vs 2.4L

I am trying to figure out why they would have both engines available? Anyone know which is the better choice?

The 2.0 is a turbo diesel
The 2.4 is a gasoline engine

That is why they have two engines of such a similar displacement.

The 2.0 Turbo Diesel is an export only engine. I believe the 2.0 listed on the Jeep site is the same as the Caliber SXT engine. In the Compass and Patriot it is a -$200 option (i.e. delete) but is only available on the Sport FWD with a $1000 CVT only. The only advantage would be MPG.

Difference is MPG and about 20 HP. The 2.0L and 2.4L offered in the US are both gasoline. Europe gets a VW designed 2.0L turbodiesel. The 2.0L is only offered with CVT and 2WD on Patriots. 2.4L is offered in all forms, 2WD, 4WD, CVT or manual.
