2.0 Engine

Can anyone provide any information on the 2.0 engine? Where did it come from? Is it a new engine? Is it reliable? Any background information would be appreciated.

The same as used in the Caliber. The 1800 and 2.0 are the same block castings, the 2.4 is a different casting but only because of cylinder wall thickness.

I have read a user who put it in their Patriot say that the gas mileage was not much better than the mpg 2.4 folks are getting and it is very underpowered to carry that big of a vehicle.

If they had it all to do again, they would get the 2.4

I have the 2L turbo diesel engine. Performance is excellent, not sure if one is available for the 2L - but I imagine it would make a world of a difference. If the Caliber has the same engine, i'm sure i've seen performance add-ons such as the turbo for it around.... I think I saw it on the Mopar site - www.mopar.com

I'm pretty sure that this is the 2.0 VVT petrol engine that has been listed as an upcoming option in the US. The Turbo Diesel would make a lot of folks jump for joy but I haven't caught any news of that being released over here. The Caliber SRT turbo is a front wheel drive, 5 speed (6?), so I'm not sure how the engine programming would work out. The MOPAR Turbo upgrade kits are shown for the PT Cruiser and the SRT-4 Neon on the MOPAR site.

Thanks for the information.

My wife found a Compass on the dealer lot that had everything in it that she wanted, but it had the 2.0L in it. I expressed concerns about it not being a 2.4L. She took it for a test drive and was okay with the performance, so she bought it. She's had it now for almost two weeks and is very happy.

To me it seems okay. I'm not sure I like the CVT, but it's not mine and as long as momma's happy......I'm happy!

I don't know much of anything about these powertrains, but with a lifetime warranty I guess I shouldn't have any concerns, right?

Hi
The VW diesel is very good hope you get it soon but is not as fast and as much fun as the PT diesel but is better on fuel. You have the SRT that we want but can’t get
Regards,
Merlin

There are many happy Caliber SXT's owners running around with the 2.0 and CVT. As long as the wife's happy you can make do with everything else. Congrats!
