08 compass cvt question.

I have never owned a jeep before or any vehicle with a cvt transmission. My last vehicle was a Ford Ranger with a 5 speed automatic transmission.

I now have a automatic cvt jeep compass and it's a great car but when I release the gas the jeep slows down alot more then my ranger, almost like the engine or transmission is braking the car.

With my ranger if I released the gas, I could coast along, but in the compass if I release the gas I start slowing down immediately. Acceleration is sooooo smooth, I don't feel any shift shock at all, but when I release the accelerator I can feel the car slow down more quickly then I would like.

Is this normal? Anyone else with a cvt notice a quicker deceleration then their previous automatic vehicle?

Here's a little more general info on what Chrysler has been doing on transmissions since '99 or so. Although these transmissions are completely different than the CVT's they are still run by a computer program. This is just an FYI. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f28/a...3/#post7816845

So it would seem that I should disconnect the battery to reset the transmission. What else will this effect if I choose to do this? Other then the obvious radio memories and my garage door opener programed.

Nothing negative from my experience. The radio will start at an unset position when first turned back on but the buttons still stay to their presets. You'll need to reset the time though.
