Worrysome mechanical problems

First off I have a '07 wrangler unlimited X and have loved it up to this point.

I always take care of my Jeep get oil changes every 3,000 miles and I took it in for both recalls.

Right now I have about 25,000 miles on it and I have one scary problem after another.

The electronic throtle control indicator light keeps coming on randomly and seems to go on and off with no rhyme or reason. Took it too the dealer they gave me the run around saying they couldn't get it to trip blah blah blah something about them resetting it. Moral of the story still not fixed.

New problems

Recently last couple of weeks when I turn the car off and start it a few minutes later the same indicator comes on and this time the car rumbles violently as if the cylinders are misfiring or something. Turn car off immediately, restart, problem goes away.

Then last couple weeks I've been noticing right around 40-45 mph there is a whining noise and rumbling sensation in the accelerator. Please for the love of god the transmission can't be going bad already.

I'm taking the car in on monday and hopefully those jokers won't give me the run around because I'm not leaving until that is fixed. Chrysler mechanics in my opinion are the worst in the business. Seen better service at a Hyundai dealership for christ-sake.

Just wondering if any JK owners are having similar problems. I'm new to this forum, hope to hear from ya!

The autos have had their fair share of issues in the JK. Me and many others have had issues with them, so who knows to if it will go. A few people had fires from them and one had it crap out entirely and fought with Chrysler for four months to get it replaced under warranty. So much for the "lifetime warranty"

I have many issues with my auto. The RPMs drop and I lose power on any incline, also sometimes my RMPs lock at 1500 and there is a vibration in the floor and then I have to stomp on the gas to get it to unlock, at which point it shoots up to 3000 RMPs or higher. (is this the vibration you are feeling?)

My dealer has done multiple software updates and replaced the torque converter (which helped for a bit) now its back to how it was before. I have not been back to the dealer yet, cause Im not sure they can even fix it at this point short of replacing the whole transmission or Jeep.

Im guessing its a bad ground or solenoid or just a bad tranny period.

Oh, mine is a 2008 auto x with 9500 miles.

Thanks for you input hellbound. I don't experience any locking just a whining noise and a vibration consistently around 40-45 mph. I fear I am getting the run around because of the warranty, because they are not making any money off me, so they play games with me and don't fix anything.

I bet if the warrenty expired today they wouldn't hesitate to tell me I needed a need tranny or do actual work.

You are correct sir, they make less for warranty work and furthermore trying calling Chrysler to get help. Its a joke.

this is not helpful, but I gotta post it, it sure seems as though lately there are even more complaints than usual about Chrysler's warranty service...that is not a good omen...

yup and its going to get worse. The auto industry has been doing horrible this year, especially american manufacturers. Warranty wont mean much when the companies bankrupt.

I've had the same problems. However, after the third trip to the dealer, they replaced the throttle body and it appears that may have done it. Talk to you dealer about it.

Just my opinion but the mechanics these days don't seem much like mechanics. They hook up a computer to your vehicle look for error messages, if a message appears they look up on the computer and print out the fix that it needs. If you have a problem that does not show an error they say "can not duplicate - we can't fix it until we see an error message". This was a major problem when my jeep (along with many others) had the "stall issue", went in told them what happened, they hooked up the computer and said "the computer shows no errors" and acted like i was making the entire thing up only saying "that is not possible for it to stall - we would see an error" weeks later jeep released a recall.

I have been in since november with a waterleak with my softtop. I have been to two dealerships, one will not take my phone calls regarding the continuing leak after it was fixed 3 times. Of course i get "never heard of that happening" until i show them, then it's ok we'll take a look at it. Needless to say the computer did not show an error for this issue!

Thanks for the reply. Which of the problems did replacing the throttle body fix, just curious?

I had different problems, but the solution may give you some direction.

Three trips to the dealer down South - three more to the one up North - , finally (much later!) problem fixed (in minutes!) by someone wandering by while I was parked somewhere.

Dealers DO make money on warranty claims - if they do NOTHING while following Chrysler's warranty repair procedures. It isn't about "fixing the problem", but more about being able to bill for whatever Chrysler's prescribed "fix" for the problem may be. Did anyone wonder how the dealerships are managing to keep the service bays busy while people have restricted spending?

If you can find a dealer who - 1. KNOWS what's wrong, and 2. WANTS to fix the problem, you might get past this.

Frankly, Chrysler doesn't seem to care. They seem to think we'll get frustrated and buy another Jeep! I wonder how many will?

I had the issue with the ETC light coming on. Sometimes I would get the running rough issueat startup...It's been two weeks and I've had no problems after they replaced the throttle body.

The first time I took it in the flashed the ECM...no good. The second time the replaced the ECM...didn't even get the Jeep home and the light came on.
