Winch Questions

I've got a 07 Unlimited X and I would like to put a winch on it. Anyone know if there is an option to add this to the stock bumper. I've got the fog lights and tow hooks option. I hate to have to spend three times as much by changing the whole bumper out? It doesn't look too hard to fab a mounting bracket, just wondering has anyone done this or recommend for or against it? I'm a Jeep newbie so go easy

Warn makes a winch mount for the stock bumper. You lose the factory tow hooks but they include the old TJ style hooks in the new winch mount. However I remember it is kinda pricey.

Thanks! Looks like about $289 for the mounting plate and around $600 for a decent winch. Any reason I should get more than 8000 lbs rating?

To pull the Hummer out from blocking your trail

I was talking to a couple of people from Warn and Mile Marker. They suggested 8000 is the min just to get you out. Having more is always better, like 9500 but not really more than that. You can double the strength by looping back or something (can't remember the terminology), so 8k is usually enough. They had some great deals on 8k and I was tempted to pick one up.

Went and checked them out over lunch that's exactly what they said. Loop it through the pulley to double your strength, and unless you have to pull out any Hummer's you'll never need more.

Its called a double line pull.

I plan on a 10,000 lb. winch, probably a T-Max.

For about $475 you can get the Mopar front bumper with the winch mount. Then you can mount the winch down between the frame rails and not up in front of the grill.

And it is not easily dented like the stock bumper. Just a thought!

And it will look like this:

Very nice! I hate to lose my fog lights but for an extra $200 it looks pretty damn smoooooth!
