Yes, I cut and plastic welded the stocker, but the new RC caps look a lot easier to do.

Sharkbite, Do you have a writeup or documentation on how you did your bumper.

That's clean Sharkbite, real clean. I've never even seen anyone plastic weld but you seem to have mastered it. You may have gotten yourself into trouble because a write up is in order. You know we work on our own stuff for free and time is all we got. Harbor freight seems to always have stuff at REASONABLE prices. Good job!

Found this from him on another site...

"I used a regular cheapo soldering iron. Just take your time, and as mentioned earlier, use strips from what you cut to fill in as you go. I "welded" the outside and used plastic bumper repair epoxy from Advance Auto on the inside for added strength."

"I was a little nervous about it before I started, But I just went for it. If it didn't look good, I would have just left it cut with open ends. If you look closely you can see a little ridge at the seams. It's good enough for me, but if you wanted you could use the epoxy and sand and paint for a better finish."

I want to try this but need to practice first! Luckily if I mess up there are a ton on craigslist!

From looking at mine with the bumper off, couldnt you just buy a standard winch plate and mount it right side up and to the bottom of the front frame instead of mounting it to the top? THis would allow you to put the winch inside the bumper as shown on his.

I dont know, just brainstorming.

Exactly what I was thinking but my thinking is often wrong, just ask my wife...

I would LOVE to see pictures of the install. This is the cleanist - stockyist winch install I can remember seeing. (sorry for that)

I have never had a winch, but if you needed to get to the spool of wire for some reason, i think you would have to take the whole bumper off again - PITA. I also like the way it looks. I am gonna try to cut the ends off and weld them - i think!

This is the install that I just did on my JK. There's a pic of mine at the end of the thread. I just need to fill in the plastic bumper where I cut it and it's finished. STOCK BUMPER WINCH MOUNT - JkOwners.com - The Community for Jeep JK 4x4 Owners

That looks good, but I want my fair lead to be between my fogs like that other guy had... Thanks guys... I just bought a 12.5K winch and a harbor freight mount... I understand that its only rated to 9000lbs but I dont see me ever bending that plate.

I agree. that upside down mount between the fogs is pretty darn cool. I wasn't sure if it would clear the swaybar disconnect or not so I went with the top mount. I'll change over to an Rugged Ridge Modular bumper someday. Lift and tires are next.

Upside down mount? Please explain further... Are you saying that he has the winch mounted upside down? It looks like the box is on top of the bumper...
