Whistling Noise

I am not sure how else to describe the sound I am hearing from my 2015 Unlimited other than a 'referee whistle' noise.

I believe it is coming from under the car and happens while at a steady speed and/or while decelerating then accelerating.

This has been happening for a couple weeks now and hasn't gone away. I have an appointment after the new year to get it looked at, but was wondering if anyone has any clue what this might be.

Has the windshield been replaced? Improperly gapped windshields will cause a annoying whistle....

Sent from my over priced iPhone.

Nothing aftermarket and nothing has been replaced on the Jeep. It's only about 6 months old and the sound seems like it is coming from the front portion of Jeep and under the Jeep.

Hard or soft top?

My hard top whistles a ton... Still quieter than a soft top which is where I came from so it doesn't bother me much...

If you run with either top and the driver/passenger side "whistles"---

Move the front door upper hinge (body) inboard-one black felt tip width !!

Good luck

Impossible for it to be wind noise....as noted, it is when accelerating and/or decelerating.

I can tell that the issue is definitely coming from something mechanical or attached to something mechanical.

When I am at a steady speed (35 MPH) and let off the gas a bit and then hit the gas a bit, the whistle is there; would have nothing to do with wind noise as it happens with and without windows open.

In any event. After the appointment next week I will update.

Hey seanmh72,

I am sorry to hear about your recent experience with your Wrangler. I could not find any service bulletins that related to a “whistle” sound for your vehicle. I am glad to hear that you have an appointment with a certified FCA dealership, to have the vehicle formally diagnosed. Please keep the forum updated on the status of your vehicle. Also, if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out via private message.

Throttle whistle? Make sure the air filter box, ducts and sensor are all properly fastened.
Vacc leak? (would think that would toss a Code or three)
drive belts? Inspect for frayed edges and proper tension.
Did you run over WHistler's Mother? (bad joke)

It may be missing the front bumper under flare thing that makes wind not hit under your car

that would be constant with speed not changed by throttle or torque...

Update: So, dealer had my car all day long. Said that the tech and the service manager drove it and didn't hear anything. I went up and drove it for the tech and had it happen almost immediately. Tech drove it and had it happen to him as well. Went to talk to the service advisor and they basically said that they will probably never figure out what the noise it; essentially blew me off. They were basically saying that it is intermittent (to me that says it doesn't happen every time I drive the car) and would be very difficult to pin down. Needless to say, I am a bit peeved. I am taking it to another larger dealer on Tuesday.

I've been given this line of BS as well. I took the service manager AND the tech on a test drive (different noise - whiny axle) and they both verbally agreed they could hear it. Got a call the next day and the standard line of crap was given to me - we couldn't reproduce the noise. Ah BS!!! I just dropped the issue and said to hell w dealerships. Only thing they touch now is oil and tires (I'm too lazy and make just enough income to not have to bother with oil and rotations. I will never go to another Chrysler dealership again. Soon enough these 3.6s will be very well known by third party repair shops, so I'm praying my jeep lasts as long as possible so I dont have to bother with a warranty claim. Sounds stupid I know, but I'm just over hearing them weasel their way out of claims. And it's almost always a verbatim response u will get too, it's like they all learned it on the first day of shop class. Whatever!!!

Try checking for exhaust leaks... Maybe idle the vehicle and put a rag over the exhaust to sort of stuff it up to see if the noise appears/gets louder?
