Wheel choices

Hey guys. I have a 2013 Commando Green JKU. I bought a 2.5 teraflex suspension lift I'm putting on it as soon as I get wheels/tires. I need help on where to buy wheels and suggestions on color/type because its a little overwhelming looking. Here's my only must haves
to 16 inch as far as wheel size, 4.5 backspacing or less, and NO CHROME!

15-16" wheels may severely limit your choice for aftermarket steering components or potential brake upgrades in the future. The stock tie rod and drag link both suck with 35" tires or larger, and a lot of aftermarket parts require 4.5" backspacing and 17" wheels. Or close to it. My 17" wheels have 4.75" backspacing and my synergy tie rod and drag link just barely clear, I don't believe they would clear 16" wheels, definitely not 15".
Just FYI....

What do you, or does anyone think about keeping my stock 17s on ? I feel like I see pics online of jeepers doing it but then everything I read says they'll run with about any lift 35" tire. (Btw 35s are going to be my tire size)

I have 35s on my stock Rubi 17s with spacers. I agree with brianjw, 15s make if very hard to do any upgrades. And while I've seen post of success with certain 16s, 16s limit tire selection and typically have a higher tire price than 17s.

What size spacers do you have. And I always thought smaller the wheel sizes the cheaper the tires were??

Yeah 16s are like the odd man out. ! run 1.75" Spidertrax to get the equivalent of 4.5" of backspacing with the stock wheels.

Here they are with PSC flares

Here they are with cut fender flares, only ran like this for an offroad event since my PSC flares weren't ready to mount.

I have 16's and love em.

Pro comp 7031 with 285/70/16 mickey Thompson MTZ tires.

With a lift I'd go 315/70/16.

Rule of thumb when doing wheels on a JK: 17" with 4.5" BS or less. This way, you don't get yourself in trouble down the road.

You can run spacers though on your stockers. Here is a link to them:

You mean like this: 15x8@3.75bs 35"s Synergy tied rod and drag link.

Yep, that's 3.75" backspacing. And it doesn't even look like there is clearance if the tie rod rotates. Lol
So clearly 4.5" backspacing wouldn't work, which is what we were discussing.

Edit
Just realized he said 4.5" backspacing or LESS. So there you go. You may be able to stuff some upgrades with very tight tolerances, if you really want to push the wheels out. But I would still say that you may be limiting yourself as some wheels (and rod ends) are shaped differently.

I like my Level 8 Strike 5's from Discount Tire. They were $110 each. They also come in all black. Mine are 16" with 315/75/16 (35") tires.
