In what order did you begin your JK Mods?
I just purchased my first Jeep, and want to start modifying the stock 2007 Sahara Unlimited JK, but i was curious in what order did everyone start the mods? i.e. ... Lift kit then tires then body armor.
Thanks in advance for your help!!!!

I chose the body armor and recovery first. That will tell you what your lift needs will be. The heavier bumpers and winch will throw the original stance off sometimes cosiderably.

Recovery points, lift and oilpan skid, tires and wheels, sliders. I have a front bumper coming soon and a winch ready to drop in it once it's here.

Thanks, i never would have thought to start with the heavier bumpers and such. It makes sense though no point in spending alot of money on a lift that cant handle the added weight of a heavy duty bumper and winch.

I put on a Rock Hard rear bumper and tire rack, then a Warn front bumper, grille guard and winch.

I got a winch, then some tires, lights, couple of other things........then I bought a JK.
It really is a blur after that since it all pretty much happened the same week.........oh and then I did the first oil change.

Of the major parts only, I did recovery gear, bumpers, winch, skid plates, snorkel, and am now working on trying to afford a lift/tires which will be simoultaneous.
Obviously alot of little mods were thrown in throughout the life, but that's the order I did the major stuff. My reason for this order? Better to have the equipment and gear to protect and recover you from the intermediate trails than not have the protection/gear and be traveling on crazy trails because you have the lift & tires. Though with stock clearance and 32s I regularly do trails that some call crazy. The lift and tires will just up the scale to truly crazy. Best option? Win the lotto and do it all at once!

lets see
Lift kit wheels/tires swap gears and ruby axles in driveshafts I have no armor mainly because Im broke and want to wait for bumpers to drop in price. I really dont see why people want to add heavy bumpers when the jeep crawls great when being so light.

I had the wheels, tires, bumpers, winch, and lift kit sitting on the garage floor for about a month while they built my Rubicon.
When I picked it up I drove straight to the garage and got to work. Of course everyone thought I was nuts for tearing apart a brand new Jeep. At least untill they saw the result. Here it is at 55 miles on the clock. ![]() And now with 3700. |
