At what milage was your first oil change?

Pick up a new 13 Sahara unlimited. What was the milage of your first oil change? I should ask at what milage did the "change oil" chime.

I always thought it was a good idea to change the first oil at 1000 miles. Takes out the break in oil and first major break in partials. What's your thoughts?

I do the same; engine, transmission, differentials.

The OCI (change oil chime) will depend on how you use the vehicle. Some folks see it after 2500 miles, others 8,000, 10,000 or even longer.

This is my second JK and I waited until the oil change light came on with both of them, they were between 2500-3000 when it started to ding. All my other vehicles over the years were around 3-4k. I have yet to change the diff, trans or gear oil in any of them except for my AMX and all ran just fine.

I have always done my changes at 3k intervals. Yes yes yes with synthetic you can run for blah blah miles. Changed at every 3k on my 4.0s and they cranked on for hundreds of thousands of miles. So why change?

I opened the manual and followed it. No point to throw good money away on unnecessary maintenance.

First off. On your new rigs.....who the heck are your dealerships? I had the first year of oil changes and standard service (tire rotation, fluid refills etc) for free. They said it was a standard offer from MOPAR.

I took advantage of it. Changed out my oil at 1500 and 4500. Another oil change at 7500 with a 5 tire rotation. Next one is due at 10.5 k.

I personally like to change it at 1k then 5k. I change it at 5k intervals after that or if the chime sounds earlier. I get the first 4 oil changes from the dealer. So I will take advantage of them.

The first time, I changed the oil at 6K miles and it's been either 6K or 6 months ever since, whichever came first.

I have 9430 miles on my 2013 JK. Still no "oil change" light or chime. It goes in this afternoon for the first oil change.
