Going to try the Gain this week. Pulled my carpet out a year ago and been wanting to Lava line my tub. Hopefully this works.

Ok, so after reading some of the replies to my "discovery" I decided to recreate the results. I started to contemplate if it was a combination of heat from the floor board above the exhaust and the soap or just the soap. I poured some Gain dishwashing liquid on the passenger rear sound deadener and let it sit. After a few hours (beers) I checked on it's progress. It had begun to soften the top a bit and after a few more hours it was even more pliable. So my hypothisis is if your willing to let it soak in a few days the results will be better. Good luck and be patient the initial discovery was after it had been sitting there for at least 4 days.

I wonder if you were to help it by poking a few small holes in the goop to allow full penetration..lol
Let the Gain do it's magic....irrigation of sorts I reckon is what I am trying to suggest.

It wouldn't hurt to try. Use it liberally!
Individual results may vary

lulz! Awesome (and timely) find for you XXWIDE. I wouldn't have had the time or patience to let chemicals sit and work for days, but it DOES save the ol tennis elbow

The Gain did soften up the deadening goop. It made the initial poke through the stuff easier. However, it still was a major effort to get it cleaned and prepped enough to lay down your liner of choice. I spent at least 2 hours on the cargo area only. Maybe the trick is to wait a few days. Once I made the first scrape I was committed. Couldn't help myself...I had to finish. I do believe the deadening goop in the floorboards will be easier to remove.
I have thought about leaving the stuff in the floorboards because they aren't as ugly and will probably be covered with a floor liner anyway..? The cargo area looked kinda like a ace bandage that was glued on IMHO. And likely would be out in the open all the time. I believe it will look much better without it.

Dishwashing liquid, the longer it sits the better it will work. I had some fall out of a bag in the back of the Jeep. It must have been there a few days before I found it.

Easy Floor Gook Removal
Strypeeze Original Semi-Paste Paint Stripper! Brush a fairly thick coat on, wait 15-20 minutes and putty knife it off. It may take a second application to get all the way down to bare metal, but it is EASY!

This is a great thread! I'm planning to do this eventually. I'm hoping for more responses from people who try letting it sit a while. With my job I will have plenty of time to let it sit. Plus, it'll make my jeep smell nice.

I'm currently removing it with 91% alcohol and water.
so the gray material under the paint will absorb water which weakens it and making it easy to remove.
I have made holes in it and poured water with alcohol (just in case) until it's almost overflowing over it..
I'm keeping antsy to i've been using a chisel to break it up quicker.

I removed mine for my interior tub lining - I eventually used a heat gun and a paint scraper. Smelly, best to do in a ventilated area, but works great. Peels off like nothing.

I don't want to get off topic but I believe this will pertain to the original poster.
Do you remove the seam seals as well as the "sound dampner"?
Or do you just sand it flush or just ignore it and go over it?
