Hmm, how about 'you're not really wheeling if you don't break something and/or get stuck'?

After DCX realized the mistake they made in killing the XJ and what an even greater mistake it was to replace it with the KJ, they give us the XK?!? WTF???

How was the KJ a big mistake on DCX's part? Do you realize how many liberties Jeep sells a year? I think they are probably doing pretty well for DCX. Yeah it might be chicks and soccer moms buying KJ's, but they sure buy a lot of them.

Before everyone starts bashing on the JK check out Jp magazine this month and see the comparison vs. the TJ. The main thing is going to be the price, this comes from engineer (me) that works with DCX engineers on a regular basis. According to DCX engineers at TNAP it sounds like it will be pricey. As far as the rest of the vehicle lets let this thing be launched and go into production, then cast judjement about vehicle capability. looks wise IMO I like the front end, and the interior is almost to nice, but the wheel flares look overdone.

Liberty is a Cute-Ute, Fine.

I would agree that the Liberty is not a "macho" Jeep but to say that only Soccer-Moms and chicks drive them is a bit narrow. I think we're all grown up enough to recognize that not everyone (hundreds of millions ?, maybe thousands of millions, er, billions [sorry], of people buy and drive cars all over the world) has the same objective when buying a vehicle.

I love my Jeeplet, as the family calls it. We recognize, and honor, the fact that it isn't a rugged Jeep. So be it. I still get almost 27mpg, can tow 5,000 lb, can stuff all my work junk in it, and I can pack my family in for a weekend trip, with bikes and gear, even if it is only to the mall. All for less than $25,000, a lot less!

And maybe someday I will get the urge to build a trail rig (learned to drive with a '79 Bronco that I beat up quite often on the trails around my house as a teenager, no crawling though). And I'll tow it to the trail head with my Jeeplet!

Should have stated that our Liberty is not a "rugged Jeep". I don't intend to thrash the fenders or risk a roll-over in my daily driver. Call me weak if it makes you feel better. Doesn't change anything, though.

We bought a KJ CRD for the fuel milage. I can offset the additional cost of the diesel and slightly higher fuel prices with the 150% fuel milage over the life of the vehicle. However, it's not our only Jeep. One of the Jeeps in the fleet is a real Jeep and not a civilian copy.

well here is one way to look at it... Is the Liberty the most capable SUV currently for sale in it's small SUV catagory? you can't be telling my a Honda CRV can go anywhere near a Liberty trailwise... judge it by it's peers first.

Stock, I must say the liberty is aight off-road, Ill never understand why they only gave it 6.5in of ground clearance though. With a mild lift and a locker, it can go almost anywhere within reason. It will not, however, do good sized rocks like a sfa rig would do.

I guess I'll have to get a photo of my CRD Liberty "posing" with a wrangler being dragged around behind it...295 ft-lbs of torque and only 28 mpg on the freeway...

here's what the wrangler will do when it hooks bumpers with a CRD

I own both a TJ and KJ; they both have strengths and faults; I guess while we're pointing out not quite getting something right, let's start with the D35 rear end found under so many TJs and go from there..

First time I heard the term JK, "joke" popped into my mind, and probably into the minds of Hummer, Landrover, Toyota, etc., owners as well. Not a real smart marketing move.

Do you really want to go off road with either? Small SUV's are grocery getters that men can buy and still feel like they have a penis.
