Took my hard top off for the summer. Went to hardware store, got some grade 8 bolts, got my steering stops sorted out and hit the frame with some paint after the tires polished them up. Chopped and re-installed the rails and fender liners. I'm tired of working on that turd for a week or so!
I changed the tranny filter & fluid and transfer case fluid. The middle back tranny pan bolt placement was designed by a sadistic SOB. Its right under exhaust heat shield and from behind the tranny mount blocks and access. I ended up using a 1/4 socket on a flathead screw driver so it could flop around. The tranny pan was extremely rusted and paint peeled off, not what I would expect for 2009. I only have 37,000 miles on it. Anyone else run into this? I sand blasted and painted tranny pan before I installed it, but I am still not happy with it. Anyone know of a good aftermarket tranny pan?
Just when I thought that my rear axle was done I decided that I should add the Poly Performance shock brackets with C/A skids
These raise the shock mount 1-3/8" and give an extra 1-1/2" clearance under the C/A's.
Now I need to make some bump-stop blocks to prevent the shocks from fully compressing.
Maybe a tighter weave than chickenwire would be better. Something like window screen. Try making a small frame that you can epoxy onto the bottom of the floorpan or fix a bracket to allow you to remove the screen easily should it get punctured; make it tight, otherwise it gives the little critters an easier path inside.
