The problem for me was tightening the bolts once i mounted the bumper. I had no way to ensure the nuts didn't move while i tried to tighten the bolts either. Another problem was trying to just get the washer and the nut on with some of the obstructions. I can take pictures and explain after work tomorrow, right now its raining and she's outside.
The suction cup was from a Mio GPS that died. I disassembled it and got rid of the part that hooked to the GPS. That left me with just the base.
The Tripod was a cheap, lightweight aluminum one that had a bent leg. I pulled the head off, drilled down through the center where there was, at one time, just a small screw. Used a longer bolt coming up from the inside of the base (you can see the nut)
Afraid there isn't much more to the story and I didn't thing to take pictures during the construction.
Two jeep projects this past weekend. First was working on the lighting/switch setup. Two sets of lights going in, a pair of cheep driving lights mounted under the back bumper as backup lights, and a pair of Hella 500FF in the front. This weekend was getting the switches mounted in the jeep, and running the wires to the battery area. Backup lights are up, Hellas are mounted, but not yet wired. (And yes, the rest of the wire tails were cut off before I closed the hood). Relay mounts are still a work in progress. And they're not shown, but each run is fused.
Other project was hanging the hardtop. The mount is simply 2 2x4 hung from the garage ceiling w/rope and pulleys. Works fine and cost about $40 (90% of that was for the 8 pulleys)
(Might need a click-free please -- and sorry for the crappy pix, just had cell phone.)
In the event the D rings are rattling against the bumper... Put some garden hose washers between the bumper bracket ears and the inside of the D rings and tighten the D ring bolts until the ring moves slightly....
Just installed iPod Connect, uConnect Mic, Lockpick v2 w/AV, and now wishing I gotten the camera as well. I just don't know how or where to run it throughout the vehicle to get to the back of the jeep.
Next up alarm system. I know I know, no true modifications.
