I lifted my jeep a couple of weekends ago (first time every doing a lift) and, since I work at home, I haven't put 50 miles on it since then.
The last couple of times I drove it, I noticed that there was an unusual sound from the rear and it felt like the rear was shifting when going over bumps at an angle. It drove fine and everything looked good, but I was worried.
I hadn't got around to ordering the new, longer swaybar links so I went ahead and got some, got them installed that helped, but didn't eliminate the problem.
I jacked it up, checked all the lift hardware, everything looked great. What the hell?
Then, after seeing a post where a Jeep owner was having severe oscillations of his rear end and found his track bar broken, I went out to check mine.
My track bar looked great, the new relocation bracket was nice and tight, installed correctly. Then I noticed that the bolt on the axle mount for the trackbar was sitting about 1/8th of an inch off the bracket... LOOSE!
Evidently, if you tighten the trackbar bolts while the Jeep is in the air, you need to check it again when it is on the ground.
I pulled it apart and it doesn't appear to have wallowed out the hole any, so I got lucky, but I can't imagine that normal mileage would have been good on the poor bracket!
So there you go.... my lesson learned for the week!
I relocated my passenger seat belt from the seat to the floor.
You better check with your car insurance. In the event something serious happens, your insurance carrier might walk away from any liability... . My humble opinion, don't mess with these kind of safety features and please don't take this as an insult.. Just good advice....
