I just got out of a meeting with LeeAnne. I'm going to paraphrase, and sum up, and hopefully I'm not going to make this bad, comical situation even worse. Ready?
About two months ago, thanks to you (really!), we discovered that there was a problem in the manufacturing of some of the soundbar caps. Something about J hooks being backwards.
This resulted in a production stop, pattern checks, and all sorts of quality alarms and whistles. I don't mean to make this sound trite, it really is a big deal, and took a few weeks to get all sorted out.
This is evidently now sorted out, BUT we now have another problem:
Bestop messed up forecasting products this year, and we've had HUGE backorder issues. We've been struggling with this for months. Basically what happened is that last year, with the economy in the tank, we had a slower year. We did not expect it to rebound as quickly as it has (Thank you all!).
So now, the new and improved (or at least, made correctly), soundbar cap is sitting in production hell: it just doesn't sell enough to make it a priority item for production.
I'm not saying this is good: it's actually horrible. Backorders are one of the worst things for a company. We're all working on it. A few days ago I spent the whole day in the warehouse putting labels on boxes. Something to do with getting them out quicker. Not efficient, not smart, but quickest. (when even the marketing guys need to do real work, you know it's critical!).
So your order sits in limbo, waiting for the arrival of this product. The piece of information that's missing, obviously, is "when." LeeAnne didn't know, so I will attempt to find out.
Just some more self-serving information on backorders: good forecasting, good planning, and good delivery has really been a strength of this company for years. Seriously. We've messed up on other things, but we've been good at that. 2009 and first half of 2010 have been incredibly chaotic in the automotive world. Chrysler went bankrupt, which turned out to not be a big deal for consumers, since Jeep went right on. But it was a HUGE deal for suppliers. We started dealing with a brand new company. Wrangler sales went from near zero to almost record numbers in the past few months. It's astonishing. Aftermarket has also really jumped. For a few months, it was tough to get even big things like Trektops (there are threads about that). This is now finally getting all sorted out. It's a huge relief. For us, not you. You're still waiting. And I apologize. We really are working it as quickly as possible.
Sorry for the long post.
