want new rims but can i reuse tmps from old rims?

I have an '09 X with 16" steelies. I found a nice set of 16" alloys but they don't come with the tire sensors. I read somewhere here that the sensors are part of the valve stems (am I correct?). So I guess my question is whether I can reuse my existing sensors on the new rims. Thanks

yes you can...when they mount your new ones they will swap them to the new rims if you ask them.

Discount Tires charged me for a "rebuild kit" to swap my sensors over to the new wheels. I think it was about $20 for all five.

I swapped mine from my original 16 inch steel wheels to a set of 17 inch rubicon wheels. Worked fine. No kit needed.

The tire dealers have been taught that most tpms sensors need a kit on changing from one wheel to another because the cap that holds the stem is destroyed on many tpms sensors when they are swapped.

The jeep stock sensors do not have this problem.

You can also have your local tire dealer sell you a set, they do not have to be the jeep brand to work as the technology is purposefully generic. I have seen prices from 15 each to 40 each depending on who is quoting. I think the jeep sensors are about 33 each from jeep.
