Viper 5901 LC3 Alarm System for my JK...Small Review
Ok, here we go, I finally got the sucka in my JK.
First off, this is for my Rubi, 4dr, manual transmission. So, I have asked about this a while ago, as far as, what it can do, how good is it, etc. etc. etc. Everywhere I looked, no information. Just simple answers such as it's awesome, it's great, etc. etc. etc. But what is so good about it?? So here we go for those who are thinking of an alarm system. First and foremost, the alarm system (Viper 5901 LC3) is a 2 way alarm. Basically, all it means is that the vehicle's alarm system and the remote can talk to each other. Someone tampers with your vehicle and if you are in the house, the thing vibrates and beeps and tells you that someone is tampering with your vehicle. It has a range of 1 mile so it's that awesome. Secondly, it is equipped standard with a shock sensor and Failsafe start kill. Anyone who wants to move your car, better bring a flatbed truck and some ear muffs. In addition to the blaring alarm system, it does give you a "warn away response" for those light bumps and and impacts that basically just beeps 5 to 6 times. As for the remote, it is equipped with a remote starter, auxillary button, and your usual lock and unlock that can be programmed to match your original remote (with the single press unlock driver side, double press unlock all doors). You can have different combinations if you want but I kept it like the factory remote. That is your basic setup with the Viper 5901 LC3. Here is the fun part. Along with that system, you can add the following:
For the most part, the most important ones that I see anyone include are the Audio Sensor, Backup Battery, Digital Tilt Sensor and Field Disturbance Sensor, Ultrasonic Disturbance Sensor. The Audio Sensor detects when a grass is broken. I heard these can be finicky depending on where your installer installs the mic to detect glass breakage. I would suggest not to get this because it's essentially overkill. The Battery Backup is up to you. In theory, they can bypass your battery if they want to but they have to get to your battery to begin with and doing so will initiate the alarm to start blaring at you. If you have the battery backup, oh well, I guess the thief will have to tolerate the noise longer to find out where the backup is hidden. Digital Tilt Sensor basically detects and initiates the alarm if the vehicle is lifted 10 degrees or so from the front, back or sides. Let's see if the thief can remove my wheels with the jack when they start to lift it. Field disturbance sensor is basically a invisible barrier in the exterior of your car. This was used to be known as the "PLEASE STEP AWAY FROM THE CAR" warning alarm. Now they got rid of that and it's now just a series of beeps to inform you to stop peeking inside the car. So yes, you can adjust the field to be right up close the window so no accidntly annoying warning when you just walk past it. Power locks, trunk release and power windows is for people who wants to control your windows and trunk release through the remote. I'm not sure exactly what power locks does but trunk release basically allows you to add a device to be able to pop your trunk through the remote. Unfortunately, jeeps don't have trunks so this option is out of the question. On the other hand, the power windows is nice. Here you can control all 4 windows (at least on my 4dr JK) to go up and down. When you leave the car and set the alarm, if any windows are open, it will close them automatically. Ultrasonic cabin center on the other is similar to the proximity "Field disturbance center but it's for the inside. This is nice for when the top is down and you leave your sunglasses on the dashboard and someone tries to reach inside, basically it will set the alarm off. So there you have it, the options. How about the remote starter? Folks, here is a capable remote that can be used with a manual transmission. Why? Basically, by default the remote starter is disabled. You have to initiate the remote starter in order for it to work. Let's just say it's a safety feature. In order to initiate the remote starter, you have to place the parking break in park, stick in Neutral and then press the break peddle one more time and then press the remote starter button to initiate the remote starter. If the alarm goes off, someone tampers with your vehicle, the remote starter immediately disengages. Once again a safety feature. Essentially, your jeep can't tell if went back into the car and accidentally put the car in drive/reverse so it disengages again. What else can it do?
There you have it! I think I covered it all.

Thanks for the review. Great writeup. Did you install this system yourself? If so, was the install pretty straight forward?

I had a reputable expert Viper installer install it. They knew a lot about these systems and explained how they installed it to ensure nothing goes wrong.

Just a quick correction. The internal cabin sensor is something I didn't opt for... However, speaking with the viper installer, they stated that this is not a sensor but a cabin pressure sensor. Basically it's supposed to detect cabin pressure changes. I don't understand it but that is another one I didn't opt to install. Another overkill item, imo.

How does your ultrasonic alarm work? It seems like it acts like a proximity sensor to me being more sensitive to heat. either I cant dial in right, or somethign truly is wrong which is what I believe.
