UConnect 8.4 and the Wrangler CANBUS

Anyone try to connect a UConnect 8.4 to a Wrangler? I'm not concerned with physical fitment, EVIC, or the climate controls, but I am curious if a connected unit (even if it requires a different wiring harness) will talk to the Wrangler CANBUS and give you radio, satellite, and navigation.

The zero replies to this thread is by no means a surprise. Nonetheless, I might be able to get my hands on a unit temporarily and see what I can do with it. If so, this may turn into a mod thread as I've got some ideas for getting one of these into a JK.

The Can-bus systems are different and the system will not work.

The 8.4 radio can be found in both CAN BUS speeds (High & Low). I think that it may not work with a Wrangler amp but if there's no amp then it may just work out.

I'm still curious if it'd work, just the radio and nav part.

I've got a guy that can create a mold of the current JK dash piece that surrounds the instrument cluster and center console that actually looks OEM (finish and everything) and not a cheap knockoff that you see from a lot of audio shops. The mold could be easily modified to fit the 8.4 screen. There'd probably need to be some cutting done behind the piece to mount the thing, but I'd like to know if the actual radio works first before moving forward on something like this.

Hey, it could happen. After all, they made a Dragon edition.

It sounds like you are going through a lot of trouble to put a factory radio in. I can't help but ask why?

It's no trouble at all. I had an opportunity to get my hands on one extremely cheap when I started the thread, but I missed the window. I'm not actively pursuing it at the moment, but I remain curious.

Likewise, I have yet to see an aftermarket unit with a UI that doesn't look like it was designed by an 8-year old. Car Play and Android Auto are cool, but it'd be nice if Apple and Google just straight up made navigation units that don't require a phone to function.

Adding a Bad Elf to a tablet or phone makes it so that the GPS locks in quickly without the aid of cell towers. I have the Garmin app on my iPhone and my iPad which means the maps are stored locally without having to load as I drive. I don't use my phone or iPad for navigation in my Jeep since I have a Kenwood head unit with Garmin navigation built in. I use my phone or tablet on my motorcycle. No, I am not staring at them when I am riding my bike. I keep them in my saddlebag and just check my position when I stop for gas or whatever.

Here are a couple of pictures from my Jeep.

The Alpine XR009 looks better than factory with the exception that it sticks out a little further from the dash....and cost $3,000 lol
