UConnect

The jeep I'm looking at has the Uconnect headunit, but when you press it it kindly tells you the jeep isn't equipped with that feature. What needs to be done to get it going?

I ordered a microphone on Ebay for about 40 bucks. plug it in,set it up and you are hands free. there are cheaper mics out there but this was a mopar part. this is the site i saw the other one on:

http://www.coastaletech.com/MYGIG.htm

the lockpick is not needed to get uconnect. Just the mic is

How is the software loaded? Remember I don't have a MyGig, just a plain ol 6 cd changer with uconnect buttons.

Without MyGig you need to purchase the UConnect add on kit (part number 8221004AB), install it, and take it to the dealer to be activated. Kit has a list price of about $250 (I paid $200 for mine) and the dealer will usually charge about 1/2 hour of labor for activation. You can also add the iPod cable (part number 82210263AB) for $40 which will integrate the iPod controls into our radio.

No. Unless you added a mygig.

So, mygig (with nav)= software version 9.713, (maybe the one prior) or newer and a mic.

Other radios, = uconnect module, 200$ish and trip to dealer 45$ish

Simply having the button doesn't mean anything, they all have the button. What dictates the part or parts your require is the radio you've got as HSC stated. It's much easier, cheaper and faster for MyGig guys to get Uconnect up and running. Medicbear, I'd assume you've got a single or 6 disc, so you're going to require about $250 bucks worth of stuff to get your uconnect going. 100% worth it though.

I will say that I agree with SaharaBlackNo1 that it is worth it. I will be interested to see how good it is with the top off though. I mounted the mike above the mirror by the windshield so it will be protected from the rain. I've been caught with the top down lots of times.

That's pretty close to where all the wind is Jerz, so I don't know how it'll behave, but I've used mine with the windows down, top down, etc and I've got to raise my voice at times, but it's surprisingly not bad. Certainly about as good as using a cell phone in the same conditions.
