Thanks all. I agree with all the comments except the idiotic phone/tablet/PC crap.
I think the point missed was that I had negotiated hard for the 2010. Walked away and was recontacted eventually working out an acceptible deal. I hold no illusions that I "took" the dealer after all I buy cars occasionally, they do it all day long. They're pros. That said I got close to what I expected and wanted and so closed the deal.
When I saw the specs on the 2012 and had taken a test drive, I planed to attempt to duplicate the deal by simply duplicating the payment (just negotiated 8-9 months prior) and adding on the months I paid on the 2010. They wouldn't go for it, that alone tells you something.
When I buy fresh I do all the research, values, money factor, time of month, and if I trade, usually do not, I know the regional value before I express an interest.
That make more sense? And for the dimwits who trash tablets I can only imagine you are young with good vision. Wait until you are 60 plus; you'll change your tune. Finally, so you don't think 60 is all bad...... financially, the cost of the tablets for my wife and I in addition to our phones, desktops and laptops is inconsequential. We buy what we want. I just didn't want the 2012 at the price they demanded.)
Again, thanks all for the input and advice,
Gary

My tablet runs a full windows desktop for work, holds about 300ish books, 40 movies and lets me control a ton of crap at home.
Why the tablet hate?

Because the thread is about trading in a 2010 for a 2012... not about phone vs Tablet.... Unless adding a tablet is a dealer option for the 2012... or a tablet docking station... hey does the new radio/electronics gizmos that connects the IPOD and Cell phones also work with tablets?
If not Tablets suck because they re not an option on the build sheet.

molshove makes excellent points. Every single person that has ever bought a car from a dealer based off of payment amounts has gotten screwed...every single one.
Nearly every sales person immediately wants to talk payments, because that's the easiest way to scam the buyer. Let's say a car could have been had for X amount of dollars, with a payment of $400 for 60 months at 3%, but you say you want payments under $500. You'll get payments under $500, probably around $485 because now you've given them the green light to stick all kinds of extra crap in the loan because you're willing to pay more for the car than you should because you focused on the payment rather than the bottom line price..
Best thing to do, get financing before hand so you know where you're at, if the dealer has a bank that can beat it, great, if not, no big deal. Then use a simple payment calculator and figure out what the payments are on amounts near what you're looking to spend. If you have a $500 monthly limit, you'll know before you ever leave the house what you can and cannot afford. You'll also know if you're getting ripped off when you talk actual dollar figures.
Payments cannot be changed, a given percentage rate, times the length of the loan, and dollar amount is what it is. The only thing that lowers the payment is a better interest rate, or a lower price.

No, they put an entirely new transmission with 5 gears instead of 4. The manual is the same other than 6th gear is slightly different.

Does that help with alleged overheating problems?

I wish I would have read this thread before I bought my 2011. My first brand new vehicle purchase. I feel now like I could have possibly gotten a better deal. Oh well.

Don't feel bad - you will buy plenty of cars in your lifetime. For every one of you that let's me make a decent commission on you, there's ten of you *******s that would just as soon have me come out of my own pocket with your down payment before accepting the fact that I need paid for my time babying your high maintenance ***.
You will have your time to make some poor guy miserable, don't you worry

Sorry to be a dick man but if you only asked to see the payments you have no idea what they were demanding. And you have to think that yeah buying a car in Oct is a good call price wise. But that works for the previous model year. You can ask for under invoice all you want on a 2012 but good luck. The dealers aren't hurting to gid rid of them the way it seems everyone is lining up for them. Oct 2012 might yeild a better story. Just my 2 cents
