sgt jeep .... Just a lurker checking in. Watching this thread very closely and making notes regarding my upcoming JK .. to be purchased or not.
.
I said I was done but also wanted to just comment on this.
Dont make your decision based on this thread or any thread on a forum in regards to reliability, etc.
(and this goes for everyone, on all car forums, with all brands)
People on forums tend to be enthusiasts, tend to be more particular and more critical (case in point, how many people complain that the 2007-2011 3.8 engine is so horrible you have to upgrade to a pentastar, or a hemi - it isnt THAT bad)
Just look at the numbers
Jeep sold 125,000 JK's in 2011 (approx)
Since 2007 has sold over 400,000
even if 20,000 of those JK owners are on this forum, thats only 5% of vehicles sold (and with 327,xxx members, I might say that is optimistic, but reasonable for these purposes)
and if 5% of those 20,000 people have SIGNIFICANT problems, thats 1,000 people.
which means, based on this forum .25% of people had problems.
Yes, a forum is a valuable resource, but just one of many. Check with JD powers, consumer reports, NHSTA, etc to see the track record, reliability, etc.
If you dont know the history, dont have faith int he product, or know if you should, do ALL the research you can with all resources.
after all, the last thing to remember, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. people with problems tend to talk up a lot more than people with none.
