Trading in my 2011 for a new 2014

I have always hated the 3.7 in the 2011. No power at all. How would you guys rate the new 3.6 that they changed out in 2012? Is it any better for power and gas mileage? I mean if I am going 60 mph on the freeway with my 2011 3.7 and punch it to pass somebody, it has no passing gear. The speed just creeps up like I am driving a 2 cylinder. I hope my new one will be better.

I believe the new ones are around 290 HP compared to the 205 in your old one. Someone correct me if those numbers are wrong. You will be able to notice a difference BUT it is a wrangler not a sports car. It was quite a big difference for me going from the 5.7L hemi to the 3.8L but I bought it because i wanted a wrangler and I don't mind the sluggishness of it over my old Jeep.

I am assuming you have a Wrangler JK so you have a 3.8, not a 3.7. As somebody already said you get about 80 more HP on the new 3.6. Or you could just spent about $1300 and re-gear your current Jeep. It won't increase the HP but will drive better on the road and let you pass and use OD, all that stuff.

Its a lease and its about up so I traded it in. I wanted the Dark Charcoal Gray color anyway with leather interior that they didn't have when I bought the 2011 and wouldn't you know it in 2012 they came out with all that.... :-)
But I just want something that's not such a dog on the freeway.

The main reason I waited so long to buy a JK was because of the 3.8. I test drove several and they had no power, even in stock form. My 2014 has 3.73's for now on 35's and it has decent get up and go. Will be even better when I re-gear. My previous jeep was a TJ with 5.13's and 35's. That was better to me than the stock 3.8, but my new JK is better than both.

I had a 2007 4 door JK Sahara and traded it for a 2014 4 door JK Sahara. Both Jeeps were automatics. The difference is night and day. The transmission is so much better, the engine has less latency in the throttle by wire as well as more torque available in the most used rpm range. Besides that, the Jeep feels put together more solid, whereas my 2007 always felt sloppy and loose. Even the paint is better. Mud would stain the paint on my 2007 and I do not experience that on my 2014. My 2014 is what I wanted the 2007 to be like.

Both Jeeps had 315/70-17 Duratracs. As a matter of fact, I took the tires and wheels from 07 and put them on the 14. I had 5.13 gears in the 2007 and with the 2014 I went with 4.88 due to the different transmission. My 2014 pulls my enclosed trailer a lot easier than my 2007 did.

I'm not bashing early JK's, but what I am saying is comparing my two JK's, the 2014 is better in every way even though they are comparably equipped.

I made the mistake of buying a 2011 thinking they would crack the code for a performance chip. What a dog. Couldn't pass its own shadow. Stupid, stupid, stupid me. Took it in the shorts and upgraded a year later to a 2012 Rubicon. At 60+ years, you would think I would have done my homework. Gee, the 2003 I traded was a better driver. Happy as can be with the 2012. It tows my trailer with 2 ATVs like a charm. I average 18/19 living in rural Colorado. Can't believe how much better the 3.6 is. Passing is now no problem

There's nothing wrong with the 3.8, but the 3.6 sure does wake up the JK and makes it much easier to drive at freeway speeds. I used to live in Colorado and did the Denver to Moab trek fully loaded with camping gear and bicycles and my JK would scream up the grades at elevation with the a/c on. A lot of people like to hate on the 3.6 but not me, I'm a fan and am glad I waited until 2012 for it. I've wanted a JK for a few years but because the wife doesn't like to drive stick, I was very very hesitant to buy a 3.8/auto because of how it felt when I drove one. And yes, it was properly set up on 35's and geared right. Still a dog getting passed by nearly everything on long uphill grades.

What is "properly setup on 35"s and geared right"--mean and based on what-???

I used to have an '11 JKU sport; just got a '14 JKU Rubicon last weekend. THIS is what a jeep should be from the factory; I never want to go back!

I recently traded my '11 Sport for a '14 Sahara. I liked the '11 a lot and while it was slower it was rarely an issue. If you want to drag race away from stop lights a Jeep sure isn't the vehicle for it. On the rare occasions you do need it the extra power sure is nice though. But the '14 is so much quieter and refined, there is really a big difference. Also, the Sahara rides so much better. Not exactly sure why. I also noticed the Sahara is better in snow--my guess is it's because the tires are taller but narrower and it's a different brand of tire. Mileage has been about the same, but I only have 3000 miles on the new one. My boss owns a Jeep dealership so I got a deal too good to turn down but even without the deal I think it was well worth it. So far I'm glad I traded.

I think it means 5.38 gears and 33's in your case.

Course if he'da done that, he wouldn't have had any trouble with traffic or mileage/power !
