track width

Has anybody else noticed that the front wheel track width is slightly wider than the rear? The only other vehicle I've seen built this way is the GM 2500 pickup trucks from years ago. I assume this adds steering stability to the vehicle.

I thought I was told once that this was to aid in turning while in 4wd. Since the front wheels turn in a wider arc than the rears this was to help reduce scrub. I may be wrong on this so somebody feel free to correct me if so.
