Tire rub?

Hi

I recently bought my JK unlimited and it came with a 2" lift the dealer installed and new BFG AT 235/75R16 tires. Looking at the "will it rub" topic I should have no problems. But when I turn the wheel over hard I can hear and feel what seems like the tire treads rubbing something. Parking with the wheel turned shows clearance between the wheels and anything close they could be coming in contact with.

Any ideas what I should look for?

Thanks!

wow. those are pretty small tires to be rubbing. 235/75 are about 29.9 x 9.3 inch tires. those are actually smaller than the factory tires. they must look pretty crazy with the 2 in lift.

id check something other than rubbing issues. check the wheel bearings and make sure they are ok.

Hmmm. If its bearings I will have something to say about it. Unfortunately I am at work for 3 more days but I will play around with it more when I get home.

I didn't realize they were smaller tires than stock. With 98,000km I am sure the original tires are long gone but the current spare is a Goodyear of the same size that was on the Jeep the first time I drove it. They put the lift and BFGs on while it was still on the lot for sale. I will run these tires down then explore my options when its time for new ones. I see that "stock" was a 32" tire...

Thanks for the suggestion!

Also, check the factory Air Dam in the front, when I had 33s making a left U-turn I'd catch the lip of it and scrape. If it's that, it's a very simple trimming job and the problem is solved.

lift the front end up (put e-brake on) and then turn the wheels to the sides, then by hand turn the wheels to see whats rubbing or where the noise is coming from.

Ok I messed up. I should have rubbed the rest of the mud off the tire! They are 285/75r16 which makes them pretty close to a 33" tire...which according to the faq says there may be some rubbing!

I tell you though this forum is helping me learn lots about my Jeep! Thanks!

So the dealer installed a lift and tires and didn't check the "will it rub" sticky at Jeepforum first?
