Tire Carrier options?

So i just figured out the tailgate on my 07 Unlimited is buckling under the stress of the Toyo (almost 35's) i have on it. The result is an annoying rattle. I've never looked at tire carriers before and would like to ask you all about suggestions:
I'm looking to keep my costs down as much as possible and the carrier must ensure that the tire doesn't put its weight on the tailgate otherwise it won't solve my problem.

What brand/type should i be looking at?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

T

Are you looking for a carrier or a bumper/carrier combo? We have quite a few options we can choose from!

Terraflex makes a carrier that will solve your problem. The only problem with the Terraflex carrier is that it is expensive and for about the same price you can get a whole new rear bumper with a swing out tire carrier. I dont have the terraflex carrier but have heard good reviews about it on this forum.

AEV is not cheap but it does bolt direct to the frame and swings out with the tailgate. There is no cheap solution to this problem, and thats why my heavy spare is either in the garage or just in the back.

hmmmm.....thanks for the replies .....
i do want to try to keep this project on the cheap.
i was hoping for 500 or less. i don't need a rear bumper - just the carrier.
i suppose keeping the tire off is an option its just not my preference.

What do you know about the Rugged Ridge Xtreme Heavy Duty Tire Carrier Mount? it fits my price range and by the looks of it it seems to be independent of the tailgate.

Your current spare is mounted to the stock carrier right? If so, the weak spot is the hinges. This TeraFlex carrier is under $500.00 shipped, and will solve your problem by swapping out the hinges...

One of the first upgrades no one ever finds out about til after putting on bigger tires. If you dont need the bling the terra flex hinges looks like the way to go.Close to a grand for anything else. Or look up a weld fab shop in your area. If the guys got time he can throw someting together with new hinges for $200-$300.Plus having a buddy welder is a good thing, if you plan on beating you pride and joy the way we love to.

I've been running the Teraflex Hinged Carrier ($450-$499) and stock tire mount for a while now and it is stout! I plan on eventually buying the adjustable mount ($199) from Teraflex but don't need it right now because my tire clears my bumper and my wheel has the proper backspacing (4.5) to sit out far enough.

Nice! I'm looking to run the same carrier and was curious if I'd need the adjustable mount too. I'm only running stock wheels with spacers tho. Do you think I can clear a 35x12.50 on the stock rim or will I run into issues bc of the backspace? I don't want to spend the extra cash for the adj. mount if its not needed. Thx.
