Thoughts on my build sequence

My idea on building my rig is coming together. My plan right now is to put on a 2.5" Teraflex BB and go ahead and get the 35" Duratracs under it. Getting the tires and a more complete lift kit at the same time will take longer than doing it this way budget wise. That way when I decide on what lift kit I want to put on (probably 738 more times changing my mind), I already have the tires and I only have to worry about funding the lift. This will also give me more time to see how the 35s affect performance and determine if I want to re-gear. Florida is pretty flat, so I've heard others that have gone to 35s don't notice enough power loss to make them want to shell out for the re-gear. Let me know what you think.

on 35s and flat ground with your motor you may not think its to bad. As for a starting kit id say thats a good choice to learn and get your feet wet. I ran tons of different parts and kits till i finally decided to build my own.

Which engine - the 3.8 or 3.6? If it's in your signature, then my bad, but I'm on my phone.

Our 2008 is a 4-door with 35s and 3.73 gears; it's less than ideal and only tolerable because it's more of a weekend and light trail vehicle. Our 2013 is a lighter 2-door on 35s that benefits from the 3.6 engine and is absolutely fine with 3.73 gears; have zero need to re-gear on that one.

hes got a 2014 3.6. Its really a preference thing. I didn't do it for awhile on my 3.8 and thought it was fine. I have since re-geared though.

Don't waste your time and money on the spacers/BB. Get a good set of coils that you can build off of.


Your gears are going to depend on your personal preference and it's typical use. I ran 3.73's/ 285's and wanted 4.10's. When I went to 35's, I re-geared to 4.88's.

If he intends to stay at 2.5" of lift I agree, otherwise it's a waste of money

Yes, I intend to stay at 2.5 and get a more complete kit down the road. I'm trying to get the 35s under it so that expense is out of the equation. Getting the tires under it with a bb sounds like more fun than spending all my coin right now on a more complete lift and saving up for tires. In the long run it will give me more time to research what complete set up I want.

It is a 2014 JKU sport s with a manual 6 speed. I feel your pain of being out of the loop sometimes on the mobile app.

If budget is such an issue, why are you knowingly spending money on parts that you do not want and is not a step toward meeting your long term goals?

Just call them or pm them. You can also order online and call them to apply it. Personally hate quadratec, but sometimes you can even find there part number and put it in the google shopping and it shows no shipping.

One thing I haven't looked into yet is what back spacing I need to run the 35s on stock rims. Are there a lot of varying designs, or is this pretty straight forward? A lot of manufacturers?

4.5" is most recommended and You need to have at least 5" equivalent backspacing on stock wheels is needed. Stock wheels have 6.25" back spacing. You'll need at least 1.25" wheel spacers to run 35's on your stock wheels.

I see your point about wasting money on the bb. I've been leaning towards the AEV 2.5" dual sport here lately. I've only read good things about it.
