The thing on the hood - whatchamacallit?

Not the two 'bumpers' on the hood for when you put the windshield down, but in between those two bumpers is that hook or handle thing...not sure what its for, but...

I notice on the bottom of it, the material is coming off...it feels like its just a plastic piece altogether or not strong regardless...

what is it for? and does anyone else have this problem with it almost peeling???

That would be called a "Footman Loop".

When combined with a strap, it will hold the windshield down while travelling so that it is not bouncing around in an unsafe manner.

I don't know if there are chrome replacements for the JK yet, but they are available for the CJ, YJ and TJ.
