Hey everyone. Been looking at 07-09 jk's, really liking what I saw, until I came upon all the threads about excessive oil use... so here's my question, are there any 07-09 JK's that DON'T use tons of oil???

Most JKs don't burn a lot of oil. Only those that do get to be the subject of threads and posts, so it looks like it's a JK-wide problem.

But, buying a used one, you have to wonder why it was traded in.

Mine doesn't burn any oil.

Mine is getting close to 6 years old and never burns a drop between changes-

I've used 5w-30 Mobile One since the first change (1100 miles)

That makes me feel better, I might be going through a private seller and not a dealer since there are so many around here. I would just be screwed if I got one, and it needed a new engine. Of course I can give a good look over, and listen, but generally I csnt take it and drive it 1000 miles to see if it burns any oil...

Mine uses about 1 quart in 1500 miles though you won't see it ever mentioned in this forum or anywhere else. I don't complain about it, it's been like this since almost new and I just add oil when it's down. Runs great with 55k miles on it.
I do run it pretty hard, 80 mph on the highway and regularly shift gears at 4500+ rpm.

The 2007 I had consumed 1 quart between changes but the 2011 didn't.

The people who goes to websites compared to people who own Jeeps is huge . I think the majority of people who own Jeeps are not on web sites. That being said, what you read is probably between 1 and 3 % of people who own Jeeps . By the way my 2008 does not leak oil .

Yup, my first forum was the roadfly sites for European cars, it got to the point that I had to just stop reading the threads about CEL's, sensor warnings, engine knocks, tranny failures, etc... Every noise my cars made, I was sure it was catastrophic!
Now, I'm just scared about Death Wobble!

My 93 wrangler would leave a decent oil stain on the ground anywhere I parked it and it never used more than 1/2 qt every 5000 miles. My JK would be down close to a qt every 1000 miles without any indication whatsoever what it was doing with it. *shrug*

I think it's just luck of the draw and as long as you don't just totally ignore it then you wont have a problem either way.

Mine doesnt USE oil but it leaks like a Sieve. I shouldve taken it back to the dealer, but its leaked almost since the day I got it. I should probly go to a heavier weight of oil, but IVe run the recommended wt with a K&N filter ever since I got it.

Nope. My 07 is at a half Qt low around 7,000 - 8,000 miles than I change it with Mobil 1 5W 30. I have over 72,xxx on her now.
