Talk me out of it....
Well I have finally started thinking about buying a new Jeep. I have a 2004 Wrangler I love to death (put 33" tires on it last summer and love it even more), but I bought it used and it didn;t have air. My 2004 has 35,000 miles, runs fine, just put in the new tires and bumpers and I know I am nuts even thinking about getting a 2009 (but the incentives are pretty interesting!).
Help talk me out of it!!

Yea I'm not going to try either. JK's have raised the bar so much since the TJ so why even argue.....

35,000 is quite low mileage for a 5 year old.
If you decide to replace your TJ with a JK... don't go for a trade in deal. Private sell will get you a top dollar.

2008 jk owner
I own an 08 X base model, no air, cruise or power. none of the stereo upgrades just the cd player.
It is a stick and I heard that the auto's are sluggish. I know that there seems to be no low end torque. it handles way better than my 74, and the 93 that i had, with just one issue the DEATH WOBBLE. o qnd the soft top noise, but thats normal for all the soft tops i have owned. other than that I love it!! |

I think you should do it!
I just traded a 2004 Wrangler Sahara auto with 33,700 miles in on a 2009 JK Rubicon loaded, and I struggled the same way you are! BUT, after having done it, the incentives I got, etc. I could not be happier.
DO IT! You'll love the JK! There are SO many positives with the JK, you will not believe you even thought about NOT doing it! Just my opinion. k s |

I had what you have and I HAVE what you're thinking about ... I wouldn't go back for anything. Other than the 4 letters on the side and the heritage, they are not to be compared - period. You'll grin ear to ear in your JK. Enjoy.

I might get burned for this but i dont really like JKs, atleast not the affordable hummer 4door.
The hood of the JK looks hideous to me. Personally I prefer the inline six (I hear V6 is less torque?) Its a jeep.. come on... 2 doors... eh... they are alright, I dont ever see myself owning one. The upgrades look pretty slick, but the price on bumpers and lifts is alot more than a tj isnt it? The jk version of my bumper is twice the price I believe... I dont know.. they just dont look that appealing to me, but I dislike just about everything new.. Im sure you would enjoy it alot more than your tj though.

I have a TJ and a JK (both 2 door), and I would say get the JK.
I you can, keep your TJ too, and you can turn it into a Brute or something. |

had a 05 rubicon. hit hard times with gas prices and employment. traded it on a new 08 patriot back in april 08. i missed my rubicon
things picked up, in jan. i found a 07 JK rubicon with 13k miles. pondered it...traded the patriot...back into a rubicon! so far i love it! not down playing the tj's, but this thing is a different anamial. big improvement in my eyes. go for it!!

Keep the Jeep and buy a tow rig and build that jeep out for the trails.

If your Jeep is paid off why burden yourself with another bill in this economy.

You can install factory air and keep the TJ. You will lose that Jeep Wrangler fun driving feeling with JK -- trust me... I own both.
Rocky529 shows how to install the factory AC kit here. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/finished-installing-air-conditioning-my-tj-sport-404168/

Simply put, JKs are ugly. Keep the TJ. It will be a much more desirable Jeep down the road everyone will look back on it and say "well jeep really got it right with that one" JKs are wider (not good for tight trails) and they don't have a 4.0 liter.
