Is stretching the JK realistic?

I would love to get another 2" to 3" (preferably 3") leg room for the rear seat without losing any room up front.

Seriously, how realistic to move the second row of seats back 2-3"? I don't need them to lay down and am willing to give up the 2-3" in rear storage space.

Cutting and stretching means custom tops, trans, wiring, etc... that is getting too expensive for a realistic budget.

Moving the seats back puts them up on the hump and nearer to the cross member of the roll bar. I believe the seats will fit width-wise... If they do not need to fold down any more can some of the under-structure be remove to keep the seat lower and keep the head room? I want it to be safe and cost effective.

4 door.

sorry. I should have mentioned that earlier.

The reason I need to move it is the car-seats strapped into the back seat leave no room for their legs. Being a taller guy, I need the seat all the way back to drive any more than a couple miles, and with three in car seats I need to move them back so they can go off-roading too.

You would have to fab a new seat mount and sacrifice them folding down, but i don't see why anything can't be done with the inclination and resources.

All it takes is Time, Money, and a plan.

Same as above, pretty much fits anything related to owning a Jeep. Once you get it figured out, share the plan and pics with us, will you?

Curious question: Why do you need to do this? That is alot of work for 2-3 inches.

keeping this reply 'family-friendly'....

In order for me to be able to drive comfortably I need the driver's seat all the way back. I have three crumb-crunchers still in car seats. The distance between the leading edge of the car seat and the back of the drivers seat is too tight for the little ones to ride without their legs being pinned between the two.

I think you would be better off fabbing a "third row" and putting them back there in the cargo area. You could do it in a reversible/removable way too. I'd make them so the car seats face rearward, for easier entry/removal of their cargo, or at least put them on a lazy susan type thing with a lock pin, if you really wanted them to face forward while in motion.

Dang......you got my attention with the "stretching" in the subject. I was looking forward to seeing what size of tires you were going to run ater "stretching" an already long wheel base. I guess I don't get to see it....because I was in thinking you were doing a 4wd upgrade.

Wow! I'm glad for once I am not that tall! My 3 ex-crumb-munchers are in college. (a lot more expensive for their beer and pizza) Have you thought of transforming a minivan to 4wd? After all, we are running on a MV engine...

I fit my tall wife and three kiddos, 6, 4 and 1.5(in a big car seat). Granted, we would never take a big road trip in it, we have a van for that, but for short trips like to the beach on wheel-n around the house, the jeep is great and everyone loves it.

I'm 6' and my kids ride fine with my seat back. I'm not into the whole gangsta lean though.

I would be leery of doing this because of the safety aspect of it. Don't lean your seat back so much and there will be a lot more room in the back seat.
