Smell gas after hard run all day In 4L

I did a run all day in 4 low and when stopped, I would have a strong sell of gas in my 2012 2dr.
Can't find any fuel leaks. Anyone have an Idea what is causing this???

Thanks

Bill

That used to happen with my í08 a lot. It was always on a very hot day though. So far with my 2012 itís happened once, but then I havenít been using my Jeep as much this summer as I did my í08. I wish I could tell you why it does it but I donít know. I did go to the dealer a few years back and was given some stupid *** answer for why it might be doing it and sent me on my way. Others have experienced the same smell too so itís not an uncommon occurrence.

Also, the gear you are in has nothing to do with it. You could be in 2wd and it will still happen.

Has nothing to do with that. This is definitely gas smell. There have been times when taking lunch breaks or whatnot that we have had to setup our camp chairs several yards from the Jeep so as not to be overwhelmed with the smell. It can get bad at times.

maybe the vent system burps it out a bit especially if at extreme angles?

Nope, no gas other than what was in the tank, not sure of the OP. Good guess though.

I'm in the same boat. I think elevation changes and temperature changes seem to trigger it. No lights, just stink.

My 2011 JKU did the same thing during a recent heat wave. Was towing camper and also wheeling that weekend. Now that it's been cooler no smell! I have no aux gas cans, and my jeep has 0 trail damage.....

Jeep equipped the JK (2007-2011) with a primitive EVAP system. It is not closed loop and depends in a ESIM (EVAP system integrity monitor) for fault monitoring, At least they got rid of the LDP on the JK.

Your JK depends on a spring loaded valve to relieve excessive pressure/vacuum in the fuel system. The ESIM is a crude device meant to meet monitoring requirements.

The reality is on a hot day when vapors are pevelant , especially in 4WD low when the vehicle is moving slow and the engine revs are high you may smell fuel. This really bothered me with my family on board off road, but there was nothing wrong.

One big advantage to the GM LS Gen IV engine is virtually 0 EVAP emissions. We run a true FTP (fuel tank pressure sensor) and a EVAP vent solenoid. The system receives feedback from a true analog 3 wire FTP sensor and acts using the purge valve and EVAP vent solenoid.

The system stays active even with the key off and you not in the vehicle, the ECM monitors the fuel system at all times.

In addition Gen IV engines use new technology gaskets that seal better so HC molecules do not penetrate the gaskets. Variable speed fuel pumps, no fuel return line, and other technologies allow the LS to run virtually EVAP free.

I can tell you I don't miss that fuel smell off road in my JK. When we would stop for lunch we had to camp away from the vehicle.

Thatís exactly what we would do too; itís either that or be overwhelmed with gas fume smell. It can also penetrate the cabin. One time we had to roll down all the windows and drive faster to clear the cabin of the fumes.

This is correct, the Jeep ecm has no way to control venting it is accomplished by springs.

It works fine in most situations, but like the Pentstar if you drive it in a specific manner and run certain gas = not so good.
